Then I guess I don't see how it compares to the Jokiharju-Nylander trade outside of all the kids not having reached their ceiling because they're all young (under 25 for all, 21 or under for most). A decently proven top 6 player for the highest rated defense prospect vs a top defense prospect but not the highest for an underperforming forward prospect that hopefully still projects top 6. - L_B_R
There is a difference between similarity and directly comparable.
Trades happen for a reason and some of those reasons are never revealed. The superficial one suggests the Hawks feel they have better than Joki inside their system now. And maybe no other team offered better than Nylander. |

At this point...I doubt Sikura has much of a fan club.
He's 24 and looking like a fine AHL scorer...at best.
His best NHL potential may just be as a deal sweetener. - ArlingtonRob
Not much on the BOD for sure, but based on what I saw, I think he can help provide some depth scoring if he gets regular minutes on the 3rd line.
Maybe he plays higher or doesn’t make the team at all, who knows. But if he comes out and earns a job in camp, I could see him making some of the “AHL” and “sweetener” talk go away. |

It seems like the Hawks have more forwards than they need to fill their forward vacancies.
Toews, Kane, DeBrincat, Strome, Shaw, The Drake, Kampf, Saad and Carpenter are 9 forwards that will be on the team for sure (barring another trade). Anisimov and Perlini could start on the team but that's not guaranteed at this point. That leaves two spots open. I would guess that Kubalik takes one and maybe Skiura gets the other. - DarthKane
Not that I think he makes it out of camp but the Finnish kid the Hawks just got with De Haan should be listed in that forward mix/depth as well. |

This website crashes non stop. Extremely old and beyond frustrating.
I’ll keep an open mind but bowman has now gotten rid of all 1st round picks from 2011-2017. So why is that? Not drafting well? Cost control?
We just saw the elder Nylander holding out for huge money so if this kid actually sniffs his ceiling he is going to want huge bucks and has a history of injuries and almost being a bust.
I am not saying powers is the hawks guru for beat writers but he’s one of, if not the only one, who goes and sees prospects. So there goes our most nhl ready d man who right now can play in the Nhl for a guy who needs a fresh start and hopefully pans out.
I’d have traded murphy. Cap room, keeps aa here and strong down the middle, and you don’t lose a nhl ready d prospect.
Now bowman has to trade AA as who’s stepping in for murphy? Koekoek? Ugh. |

Have to wonder if the Perlini situation is part of the fuel behind making a move for another forward. Maybe Stan is working on a deal where Perlini is going out for picks/prospects and they wanted someone maybe "close" to NHL ready with some skill. Nylander is likely cheaper than whatever Perlini might sign for.
Just putting it out there, but they could start the season with something like (Not reading too much into the lines, just playing around)
Kubalik - Toews - Kane
DeBrincat - Strome - Nylander
Saad - AA - Shaw
Caggiula - Kampf - Carpenter
Sikura
Keith-Gustafsson
De Haan - Murphy
Maata - Seabrook
Koekkoek
Crawford/Lehner
that is a 22 man roster but assuming De Haan is on IR, I they could probably fit 23 until things shake out. |

Agreed. You have 3 roster spots for a pool of
AA—-likely dealt now. I’d keep him over the leadership of captain America murphy.
Perlini—if this guy is asking for anything north of 1.25 he can get bent.

Sikura

Bottom line. We had extra Dmen in the organization so we traded one for more forward depth. Nylander may or may not work out, but bringing in two D in trade meant someone had to go and it didn't look like Joki was gonna be on the roster to start the year. It doesn't seem like we traded a franchise guy away, so it shouldn't be the end of the world. Even if we lost the trade in the end, it will be fine. You win some trades and you lose some, but in the end the team needs depth at all positions.
Going into next season right now, we look better on D defensively and more solid in goal with Lehner over Ward and Crawford not coming in as a huge question mark. This time last year people thought he might never return. We solidified 2C and seem to have bolstered the bottom 6 a little bit. - breadbag
I agree, also shouldn't Lucas Carlsson be ready for the bigtime? He had a good first season at the Rock this year.

I would switch these two. Just because I would LOVE a heavy, skilled, grinding third line. Actually. looks pretty solid through 4 lines. Starting to like it!!! |

mentions the Blackhawks are shopping Anisimov (no surprise) but also have been shopping RFA Brendan Perlini. Interesting, not sure the return on Perlini would be great but forward is becoming a logjam

We were discussing recently on the blog of Sikura playing in the top 6. Would you rather try Sikura or Nylander for an open top 6 position? Also, if Nylander does work out, you can drop Shaw more properly into a 3rd line winger position. |

Yes, I get that but I don't even see much similarity at this point but that's okay - we can agree to disagree. I was mostly commenting in the first place because I think both the guys in the MTL-TBL have been good. |

LA....the way I see it, you give Nylander the first shot at Top 6. the biggest reason is I think of Him Shaw and Sikura...he is the LEAST I would like on my 3rd line. Shaw, to me is a 3rd line Gem. Skilled enough to pop 15 or so goals and a little grinder and irritant.
Sikura my 2nd choice as 3rd line. Again, better defensively, and I am thinking a more rounded game than Nylander. Nylander is all skill and shot. I want him top 6 if he can hack it. I think it makes the rest of them slot in better.
That is my take anyway.... |
