Alex Nylander will attend Blackhawks prospect camp next week. He'll wear No. 92.
Get them while they're hot! |

It's clear to me that StanBo's main motivation for this trade was simply to keep the Hawks Buzzfeed humming into the 2nd week of July.
But seriously, it's been a wild 2 weeks, as fun as any prior summer of the last decade. And the surprises, few blog writers/fans saw some of these transactions, thus keeping the rest of us wondering what Stan might do next. Still true now....
And the fun will continue into October when it seems like 8-9 faces will be new on the team. - DontKnowNutin

I saw a great point yesterday made elsewhere that I haven’t seen anyone make on here:
The primary reason that Joki even saw top pairing minutes last season was because of the fact that Murphy was injured to start the season. He didn’t return until December, which by that point Colliton was already HC. If Murphy was healthy to start the season, would Joki have been paired with Keith? Probably not. But at the same time, Q didn’t play Murphy as much as Colliton did.
Additionally, if Q was as high on Joki as we’re making him out to be, wouldn’t he have gone after him this summer in Florida? They’ve got a trade history together, and Powers said that this trade (Joki for Nylander) has been talked about for a while now, so it doesn’t sound like a trade that happened overnight where Q wasn’t aware that he was even available.
The more time passes, the more I’m okay with this deal. The season can’t get here soon enough. - TommyHawk
And you know for a fact they didnt?

Point being?
I acknowledged that he got off to a nice start and yes, they were pumping his tires as a result. I don't have an issue with how he played to start the year. Doesn't change the fact that Keith was visibly frustrated and that Jokiharju's status with the Hawks dropped as the season went on. There are reasons he was traded and we can speculate and argue about them until we are blue in the face, but the one thing about Stan Bowman is there is always a rational reason when he explains why he did what he did. I still think Jokiharju is a great prospect that might be a legit top 4 guy in the NHL someday in the near future, but I think Stan wanted experience on the back end and more forward depth. - breadbag
He just needed time to get better, those were some lofty compliments, no |

I was just writing my follow up blog to this trade and wrote:
"The Hawks might be looking at bringing in Ian Mitchell after his season concludes in Denver this Spring. Mitchell has been quoted saying that when he comes into the NHL he wants to make an immediate impact. As in, I don't want to toil around in Rockford for a few years.
I can see him viewing himself as this year's Cale Makar (his buddy from the AJHL). Makar entered the scene in Colorado and looked like he belonged and this was in the playoffs(!).
Can Mitchell take that next step and be an impact player in Chicago? Time will tell but signs are pointing to him having a shot at being a regular with the Hawks by 2020-21." - Tyler Cameron
Didn't Joki step in in the beginning of the season and look like he belonged, i guess let's see what Makar looks like with 82 games under his belt.
This reminds me of the TT situation, the org just quickly soured on him and there was all this Schmaltz talk who was even more skittish than TT, Stan got lucky flipping him for Strome and Perlini. Now they are saying the same thing again, oh we have all this talent blah blah blah, i liked TT and i liked Joki, he showed flashes, all i can do is hope Nylander is all that.

The Shaw deal was great, both on and off the ice. The Hawks will recoup some picks (not exactly a 2nd and a 3rd) if Anisimov and/or Perlini are dealt. - DarthKane
I'm fearful that the only way the team can move AA is that they have to give a pick/picks, not receive them, given how close to the cap they are right now. Or they have to take back another below value cap in return. Hope I'm wrong. |

The description of Alexander Nylander's game sounds an awful lot like Nick Schmaltz. Hopefully he isn't that contact averse. |

The Hawks will be a playoff team before the Canucks, Vancouver is still not a good team. Beyond Boeser, Pettersson and Horvat they don't have much up front. Plus, Boeser, Pettersson, and Markstrom are up for new contracts in the short term. Not to mention that their defense needs a serious upgrade. - DarthKane
3rd place in the Pacific is wide open, Yotes/Nucks improved and who knows
what chemistry SJ will have.

If the Hawks need to add a pick or prospect to move AA I don't think it will be anything significant. AA still has value. The Hawks don't have to move Anisimov, they could move Perlini instead. |

Thats funny you say that.
Was thinking now Stan had Schmaltz and Strome.
Also
He now has Shaw and Debrincat. (Acquired ADB with the picks acquired from the Shaw trade)
Thats kinda smart when you think about it. |

The concern with Shaw is, since leaving the Hawks he's missed 64gms in 3 years
Has both concussion and back issues |

Except Nylander is more a goal scorer than a play maker like Schmaltz. Schmaltz is also a better skater.
Love that the Hawks got more for Shaw then they paid for him in return.
Sucks to see Joki go but honestly where does he fit this year? Realistically speaking he probably goes to the AHL.
Next year he's got a lot of competition with likely 1 spot open on the blue line. I bet his camp was not happy at all with the addition of De Haan and Maatta. You also run the risk of a disgruntled Joki playing poorly in the AHL this year and seeing his value decrease. I actually think the Hawks might of sold high on him as far as "potential".
Question is whether Alex Nylander is going to be a good return and whether this is the best return Stan could have acquired.
We all knew the Hawks were going to trade one of their D-prospects.

Like Seabrook and Keith, Shaw took a pounding and also dished one out during those playoff runs, including missed time from injury the years they did not win. Montreal paid the price. Hopefully the Hawks can deploy other players who can assist in the grind category so it doesn't all fall on Shaw again. |

Any time acquires and then trades a euro free agent it is a net gain for the Hawks. European scouting is finding free agents in Europe and then turning them in to assets.
Hawks have amassed a lot of young higher end talent for only missing the playoffs 2 years in a row.
