Maybe imo bowman sees kane doing what he did with the bread man and can help mold him and bring out that untapped potential as the 8th overall draft pick in his draft year.

Joki and AA for Middlestadt would have been acceptable. Good young D and a serviceable 3C under contract for a couple of years for a young C seems even to me.
- boilermaker100

Thats a no from Buffalo

Mitts is the #2 C for years and should be cheap for the next 3-4 years.

I guess if they weren't going to ever play Joki in the NHL...might as well trade him before he lost more value

For whatever reason, they see more from Murphy, Koekkoek and Dahlstrom than him...so get what they can and move in.

Turned a 2016 29th overall to the 2017 8th overall.

Would see hawks trade joki for another young center bennett from Calgary to use as an example.
- Scott1977

Agree. Thought the same about maybe Gusev in Vegas.

But Bennett and Gusev both want $$....so they had to go cost control

Here's my .02 on Nylander.

I went to a few Rochester Amerks games last season and watched him closely. He has great offensive instincts and has a great one timer but he refused to engage down low, fight for loose pucks and was virtually non existent in the defensive zone. He basically just skated up and down his wing and seemed disinterested.

When he was recalled, he had some good games for the Sabres.

Amerks coach Taylor worked with him to hone his overall game and he was getting better at it...but slowly. Bottom line is if he didn't get the puck for scoring opportunities he was just wasn't engaged in the game. I felt that he was heading toward bust territory. And he has also had his share of groin injuries.

Murray shares a lot of blame for the way Nylander was brought along. He never should have been the youngest player in the AHL. He needed a new start.

Maybe this is a precursor to getting his brother from Toronto....

They want both Nylanders...

Trade Murphy, Sikura to TOR for Willie

Then Boqvist steps into the show...

The suspense!!

Hawks aren't exactly Tampa or Washington upfront scoring was made to look good by terrible defense and huge amount of goals by two guys. If this makes them younger and stronger upfront use your expendable assets. Doesn't sound like Joki was exactly Norris Trophy stuff.

OK....I think I have finally run the emotion gamut....

Shocked!!!!!!

Disappointed.

Sick to my stomach.

And now, just starting to become Hopeful.

With any luck, things turn out for the best. Nylander becomes a 30 goal, 70 point Top 6 winger and I can start to feel the ......

Wow Have to give it to Stan he said he wouldn't stand pat. I'm not sure about this one though. Then again I'm iffy on most of the moves.
I wonder if Nylander has some success here is he going to do a big holdout next contract like his brother.
Bowman must believe Boquist Mitchell and Beaudin are the real deal.

I think Joki's uneveness at the AHL level may have tipped the cart towards trade. Although, radio pointed towards coaching staff not having confidence in him. Every time I saw him in Rockford, he looked bored and disinterested, then he'd snap out of it for a few moments and make a nice play, then he'd slip back into malaise. I think he really liked playing with the Finns, and I remember him saying how Kakko was so good, I had delusions of getting him in the draft to play with Joki. So, now, instead of the dust settling, we have the dust up!

I'll say this.

I've like Stan's trade's over the last year or two.

This one is bit bizarre.

I'm guessing there's something there that we haven't heard about. Just doesn't make sense at first glance.

We did female dog at him for holding on to Leddy to long, so maybe its our fault.

Stan Bowman has now traded every one of his 1st round picks from 2011-2017:

Mark McNeill
Phillip Danault
Teuvo Teravainen
Ryan Hartman
Nick Schmaltz
Henri Jokiharju

The return so far:
McNeill - the 2nd coming of Johnny Oduya
Danault - Dale Weise + Tomas Fleischmann
Teravainen - cap space + Artur Kayumov + Tomas Jurco
Hartman - Nicolas Beaudin + Philipp Kurashev + Victor Ejdsell
Schmaltz - Strome
Jokiharju - Nylander

To be fair, after Teuvo, Stan looks to be trending upwards

I'm excited about Nylander's skillset!

Your welcome. Just a little insight for you. He probably needed a fresh start. Buffalo deserves some of the blame as they rushed his development a bit. He should have went to Sweden for a year as opposed to the AHL.

We lost Teuvo and Denault, insert Nylander and Strome - who may have higher ceilings than the former. WIN!

This is a really good trade for the hawks- granted these were two players not happy with their circumstances.

Under the old regime, of GM Tim Murray. They made the decision to NOT send Alex Nylander anywhere but their minor pro team in Rochester, which probably wasn’t the best judgement.

The kid got injured and struggled each year trying to get healthy.

Henri was made that the Hawks identified he played differently after taking big hits and there looks like there are three right handed defenseman in the prospect pool already, so when his agent asked, they found a very NICE fit, with a kid who in my humble opinion, has one of the best releases I have seen, and all the tools to be a really nice NHL player for the hawks upfront.

Poor Henri? Nope.
He wanted out.

Nylander is as big as his father was, 6’ 1” and 188 and I LIKE IT- you can’t give teams to give you early selected drafted guys and yet again StanBo got himself some.

Alex is nothing like his father. May want to reign that in some.

He floats, quite a bit, as it seems disinterested in the AHL.

Maybe he puts it together, he is still very young.

So we can potentially have two of the best releases in the NHL on the same line in DeBrincat and Nylander??

Looking at some highlights he seams to have a pretty good one-timer. In these videos he actually plays similar to panarin. Ofcourse i'm well aware that this is highlights videos.
