Use your reason.... The Hawks will be making a bigger move here.... Perhaps his brother..... Bowman isn't dumb, there is something in the works...... Maybe they flip Nylander in a deal to Toronto for Marner???

Look this has "In 2 years this player will make X and" written all over it....... How can we afford all of our players? ...... Bowman is making a power-move for a player with a long contract and Joker was the one that had to go..... 2-3 years hes making 7-8 million.... Cant keep them all..... Stan is after Marner, I'm absolutely certain about it but he will trade for his rights...

I still think AA is moved in July.

I was wondering if StanBo had something working for AA, but needed a forward prospect to sweeten the deal.

Another positive I took away from this trade, they must be sure that Mitchell is signing on after the season.

And/or they believe Boqvist is closer than Joki to the NHL

If I were Ian Mitchell I'd complete my 4 years at Denver and hit free agency and get as far away from the Hawks as possible.

There are times when this board begins to resonate like the proverbial echo chamber around here. I don’t know much about Joker beyond what is said here, and everyone seems to think he is going to be top notch first pairing material. Why would someone so close to being ready, who played so well for Q, not get a callup during the second half of the season? Were we that desperate to make a run during a banner year for 88 and 19? It was a banner year for the offense because Q wasn't there to helicopter over the defensive priorities and not because they suddenly found another gear.

Colliton must see something in his game he didn’t like. So that’s fine with me. I just wish I knew what to think of Nylander today. Time will tell I suppose.

Buffalo fans are ecstatic about the trade, so, he has been a bust up to this point. Wiz seems to like him a lot, which makes me feel better. When I watch Jokiharju play I see an all-around solid player with smarts and poise. Hawks do have a surplus of NHL and prospect defenseman, so the high risk-high reward lottery ticket with Alex Nylander might pay off like it did with Strome.

Would you rather have Jokiharju, Kahun, and added cap space.....or Maatta and Alex Nylander?

For everyone who is sure that AA is being traded next, how do you see the center depth working out? I know a lot of you are penciling in Dach as 3c, but that smacks of wishful thinking. He's most likely 9 games as a winger then back to saskatoon or Rockford. That leaves you with kampf as 3c, which is... not great. What happens when toews or strome miss a few games. Now kampf is 2c which is just dumb, and who's 3? Shaw? Carpenter?

Since we just added another winger, wouldn't trading Saad make more sense? (Disclaimer: in no way do I think nylander is the equal to Saad)

I guess Alex Nylander will be the whipping dog on this site the next few years.

Also confusing. Does his speed fit in with the pace of the rest of the D? I didn't think he was all that great.

... however... if Dach does make the lineup by chance (or at least on a trial)... then I've mentioned Shaw and Saad being perfect linemates for him before as well.

Pretty intrigued by this trade....don’t have any insight in “if joker was unhappy”. Can’t say if that was influenced in the trade or not. But regardless I really believe the pickups of Calvin and Oli upgraded the backend with better defensive defenseman. Could be a short term solution once those D prospects are ready but they are definitely an upgrade. Honestly there wasn’t much certainly if joker was gonna make this team better this year. Nylander imo does....good size, although can use it more effectively, he can make his teammates better. He’s not on the same level as Kane but he’s got some slick hands and actually if he can get used to the left side would be great with Kane and Toews. Don’t get me wrong I want to see him earn that spot but his skill would work well with those 2. I really think this solidified the top 9 and made this team that much deeper given that joker kinda was traded from an area of strength now, something I definitely didn’t predict going into the offseason, I like it stan

Dude looks like he has a TON OF ABILITY to finish. If he can skate at the NHL level and find open spaces Kane is the greatest puck passer in the universe therefore Nylander (or anyone really but especially a dude with a 1 timer like his) can be a great addition.

Wait until you see Nylander in the corner.

Does Stan not get that forwards need to play defense also?

William Nylander or Mitch Marner will be Blackhawks in the fall.....

This trade only makes sense if William is coming to the Hawks or Alex is traded to the Leafs for the RFA rights to Marner....

Who is going to the Leafs/Hawks in these deals?

Neither team has the space to just take on a large contract.

Ya I think that it just came down to a numbers and timing thing.Joki wasn't going to get a chance this year and Stan swung for the fence, time will tell.

Credit Scott Powers The Athletic:

A source told me multiple times in recent weeks the Blackhawks were shopping Jokiharju. Someone else explained that it wasn’t necessarily shopping, but the Blackhawks were receiving interest and were open to listening. A source said Tuesday the Blackhawks and Buffalo Sabres had actually been talking for some time about this trade.

"“I guess maybe the progression of a lot of our other young defensemen to where we feel we’ve built up a good stable of young players and now we have the ability to make a move like this,” Bowman said. “It’s not easy to acquire talented players like Alex. He’s somebody we scouted, remember back in the draft year, we didn’t have a first-round pick that year. But we were very impressed with him. He’s a guy we had a lot of time for, and we knew we weren’t going to be able to draft him, drafting in the second round. But he’s such a high-skilled, talented player. So when those are the situations you’re looking at, trying to acquire someone like that, trying to acquire someone like that, you have to deal from a position of strength. Certainly with the progression of (Ian) Mitchell and (Adam) Boqvist, it’s nice to see how they’ve taken strides this year, much like Henri has. So it’s really more the depth of our defense prospects made this a move we were able to make. I guess that’s probably the simple answer to why we were able to do this now as opposed to a year ago at this time.”

"Just like the Blackhawks deciding on Kirby Dach over Alex Turcotte and Bowen Byram with the third overall pick in this year’s draft, this is another decision by Bowman that will be analyzed for many years. Public opinion isn’t on his side right now. Many, including myself, saw a future top-4 defenseman in Jokiharju. The Blackhawks apparently didn’t, and that’s why Jokiharju was traded Tuesday even if it seemed surprising."

So I can't be a Hawks fan who's PO'd and expresses his opinion...

...on a site visited by Hawks fans who express their opinions?

Hmmm..

Despite being PO'd about the deal, and since it's a done deal...

...I hope Nylander proves me wrong
