Seriously though. This roster today is picking 10-15 in the draft next year. If Eichel misses more than 10 games, top 10 fo sho. - jcragcrumple
what if casey gets 55 points as the second line center and the team is top 10 for pp and pk? |
|
|
|
I mean when we finally played him with Reinhart he had 6 points in 9 games. The problem was he didn’t get the PP time and was essentially playing 11 minutes a night most nights with nobody. - Swedish_Jesus
This is the main point here. Casey averaged 13:27 a night. Just put that up to 16-17 minutes (still not high) and you are talking like a 20-25% increase in production.
Now factor in linemates, and assume he plays with a gifted puck handler in Johansson or a superb passer like Reinhart.
The point is, he had a rough rookie year, he will be at least a tiny bit better. And he will have better linemates and more ice time. It's almost impossible that he doesn't make a jump from 25 points to 40 points, even if he isn't all that much better.
So trading for a journeyman stopgap who might not get you 20 goals is a desperate move.
I'd be okay with a player like Granlund, who would make the team more potent offensively. Otherwise I'll pass on these retreads. |

Micheal Ferland has signed a four-year, $14 million contract with the Vancouver Canucks.
Ferland was one of the biggest names left on the UFA market. He had 17 goals and 40 points in 71 contests last season. He's solid secondary scorer and is just 27-years-old, so he should be fine for the length of this contract. This is a good pickup for Vancouver as it looks to transition from a rebuilding squad into a contender.

They need a really good RW or a capable C addition if they want to be a bubble team |

I think coaching gets them 10 more points alone

Question for you and Mike. Does AA make the Sabres better as an almost full time 2C, who will need to be relied on heavily for a 200' game and plenty of FOs - TheSabresTaco
No, his faceoff % is not great and defensive capabilities are average at best. |

Tough part is the Atlantic may be the deepest, most competitive division this year. |

Be careful, there is precedence that you could pick just outside top 10 but due to draft lottery you could get #3 pick. Just saying. |

They have 5M in cap space after signing Ferland. Realistically, Boeser shouldn't be too much more than that. That is with 8 Dmen and 16 skaters. Half of their D corps is injured to start next year too.
They have been trying to deal Virtanen (1.25M). They badly need to rid themselves of Sutter (4.375Mx2) and Pearson (3.75Mx2).
They have an over abundance of centers too with Horvat, Miller, Petterson, Sutter, and Beagle. |

Or just not for half the roster to underachieve because they are being played above their talent levels by a coach who apparently didn't know the side of his Richard from his thumb. |

You have to be an OG club to get that kind of luck. NJD, NYR, CHI all moving up a ton of spots. |

They have 2.3 in cap space and I'd take Virtanen, no way they move Horvat or a couple others. |

Interesting to thing ahead to which 3 defensemen and 6 forwards we would protect next spring.
Probably Joker, Miller, Montour (Dahlin and Pilut would be exempt I believe). I'm not going to cry if we lose anyone else.
For forwards, Jack, Skinner, Sam, Rodrigues, Johansson (Olafsson and Mittelstadt exempt), and I will leave one spot open for a trade. Unless Vesey signs long term. |

you guys did well to pick there
Somewhere along this miserable, winding, playoff-less, 8-year stretch of road through the barren wasteland of poopty coaches, bad GMS, and high draft picks, I have lost all enthusiasm for draft position.
We got our W finally in 2018 when we picked #1.
Mentioning future Sabres high draft picks moving forward means you get the stool:

They have 5M and 16F right now. Should be easy. |
