All charts are small pieces of the puzzle. Eye test is extremely important. One of the best analytics is, how does the team perform with said player on the ice. If it's bad, you look at his linemates. If all, or most, are better without said player, you know who the weak link is.

Laine is Ristolainen and Ristolainen is Laine.

I really wish this was more of a thing back in the Derek Roy years. I mean 2011 kind of proved it, but still...

Classic Buffalo fans. In a discussion about whether you want to trade for an elite goal scorer (fantasy anyway), it has turned into an argument about who is worse, Skinner or Laine.

God forbid we have two nice things at the same time.

Henry OR McGahee
Lynch OR Spiller
Moulds OR Evans
Briere OR Drury
Hasek OR Goal Scorers

Wouldn't Skinner AND Laine be fun? You know like the leafs, who get Tavares when they already have Matthews. Or pretty much any other sports team, that understands that if one star is good, two stars are better.

Instead, we just keep throwing money at 14 goal scorers who used to score 20 when they played with a star.

In a cap world, it's a fair question to ask whether it makes sense to pay Laine and Skinner $19m combined

If he's interested in a bridge deal worth $6.5-7.5, sure. No damn way they should hand him an $80m deal

I know it's not what you said, but paying each the same contract is saying you value them equally.

That's... that's a-not-a-good-a

I would think so. He's a RHD that you don't have to give additional assets up for.

If Gardiner is looking for term, and it's not there, that could be the hold up.

I would think Gardiner has to sign before a move is made, or a team that is in on Gardiner doesn't want to wait.

Why does the fan have to care about the cap? I'll bet you right now if we got Laine and Skinner, Made the payoffs and by the grace of the hockey gods won the cup would ANYONE really care if we were in cap jail or had to go through a rebuild again?

I just want to win, I could care less what they pay players, just win.

I didn't see anyone mad that MoJo (who will struggle to get 20 goals) was given 4.5. Don't see why giving Laine 9 to score twice as many is a bad idea.

This conversation shouldn't be about whether Skinner is better than Laine. It should be about, if Laine is going to make 10M (I'd be hard pressed to see that), is there a better way to spend that kind of money.
