It does make sense.
It doesnt make sense to pay
bogo 5.14
scandella 4
Sobotka 3.5
Okposo 6
3 of them are gone next year, if we can get Laine, get Laine. - Mentalorgasm5
How about this for a better debate...
Should we trade for Laine, who we’d have to pay 10ish
OR
Ehlers, who’s signed for 6mil ? |

Easy, Laine is a RW, Ehlers LW. We suck at RW and have a lot of LWers
Answer: Laine, even if Ehlers can play RW a bit |

Yes, Phil (frank)ed around with it and finally came back to his senses. Olofsson or Dahlin need to play the opposite side with their left shots.
Laine would be opposite of them, currently where Eichel is - jcragcrumple
Dahlin at the top
Eichel at 1 circle, Laine at the other

They're both righties. They both go in the same spot, ideally. If you watch their highlights, they both score from the same spot. Could you do something different? Sure, but it wouldn't be what they do best. They are redundant on the PP, and PP is what Laine does best. |

This is really crazy.
Last year I had freaking Evan Rodrigues who can't shoot right or left handed on my PP, but suddenly I can't find a spot for an elite player on my PP? My PP which ranked 16th while Winnipeg's ranked 4th?
I keep saying it, get me good players, I don't care if I have 12 left wings. I wan't great players. I'm sure toronto isn't worrying about who centres the first powerplay, JT or Matthews. |

Not sure if its so cut and dry. I tend to think everyone on TBL is slightly overrated due to them playing so well together last year. Imagine Aho or Laine on TBL, and then Point on CAR or WPG. |

At one point Craig Simpson was gonna make that line even better. That didnt work.
Brad may filled in to the best of his abilities - Boss34
Craig Simpson’s back was shot by then.
A healthy Simpson would’ve been something to watch on that line. |

It's not just easy to say, ok go Laine, because he's available. How does he fit in your cap. How does he fit in your position grouping. TO is having a hard time signing Marner, and they're defense (The thing holding them back from a serious cup run) got worse this offseason. I'd be very cautious with Dahlin due to for a big raise when the time comes. That one would hurt if he get signed somewhere else. |

So don’t sign or make a move for anyone ever.
Mitts is up next year. Dahlin the year after. Cozens and Olofsson could be in for huge raises too if they perform.
You are always going to have players to sign. There will always be players contracts ending.
Eichel is up in a few years better start worrying about his next contract too.
Also I’d hate to be TO, Winnipeg or Tampa with not being able to afford all of these great players. |

I think Winnpeg needs to move Laine because of Cap, I dont think Ehlers is available, too team friendly of a contract. I would love Ehlers, however a Risto and Thompson for Ehlers doesnt help their cap situation. |

Since you exaggerate my point, here's how I view yours:
Sign every player to 10M
Or is it possible it's somewhere in-between being cautious and risky? And because some of us don't see Laine as such an improvement (He would improve for sure, the question is where he slots and how much). There are plenty of players I'd open the wallets for and worry about the cap later. Laine just isn't one of them for me. But go ahead and take this in exaggerated form and say that I think Laine sucks. |

Laine is a sure thing. He guarantees you 30 goals a year.
First three years -
Laine - 110 goals - .77 ppg
Skinner - 64 goals - .69 ppg
Laine is already better than Skinner. I believe that. - ImThatGuy
I think the comparison across eras - goals vs goals is crap. Skinner (or insert player 1) started playing on a crappy team. Laine produces on very good to great team.
Both are good to great. Both can suck at times. The either or is a non-starter as we have Skinner and my guess is, won't afford Laine. Too expensive, money and draft picks.
Moving on. |

Nope not moving on because according to some saying we can't afford Laine, Skinner, Eichel, Dahlin, and Reinhart all at or around 9M, Botts is a cheap mic-(frank)face. Cap shmap, tie up 45M of the 82M in 5 players, 3 of them wingers. Plan the parade gents. |

Toronto's defense is not worse. Barrie is a better player than Gardiner. Reilly and Muzzin are still there. The top three is better than before. Dermott is great and will slot in well around 4 probably
Zaitsev and Ceci...Idk, kinda a wash, Ceci has more potential though.
Leafs replaced Kadri with Kerfoot who is honestly almost as good.
They should be the same next year, which is to say they will have a legit shot at the cup, because they have three superstars. I'd give my left foot to be the leafs. |
