I happen to agree with a lot of this article, but it is about a year premature. This is the kind of thing that should be written after the penguins and sabres both get bounced in the first round next year. "Oh look, two organizations at the same spot, but one is going up and one is going down".

Right now, it's kind of hard to praise the GM of a perennially bad team.

Kinda thought we might get a Matt Cullen tribute. Nope

The Pens tweeted out a pretty cool tribute video with some narration from Cullen. It was really well done.

St. Louis won with a big physical defense. Guess that doesn’t fit the narrative.

Pens led the league in hits last season. Seems to have helped them a ton in round 1.

This is false. St. Louis did not win with big physical defense.

Yeah, I haven’t watched it yet. Trying to be somewhat more diligent with my recent promotion. I’m looking forward to some Dad tributes. His heart is in Minnesota so hopefully he takes a job to help that franchise. Back when I was up north I knew guys that had skated with him and they all had great things to say. The biggest envy moment for me was a friend of mine had a beer with Sid in an airport years ago. What a lucky son of a gun

I’d rather have Ferland on that contract than Tanev on his I think.

I got drunk with Bugsy Malone a few times. He’s (frank)ing funny. A bunch of the Lightning players too since my buddies work in the locker room.

It’s a pretty damn easy decision. Totally thought Ferland was getting 4.5 to 5.

They got him for third line money, which isn't bad. I'm not a huge fan, but thought Ferland would get more. Makes me wonder if Gardiner or Dzingel will come at a good salary.

I'm guessing he already had this blog about done and will probably do Cullen tomorrow. I hope that isn't just a burial job. Cullen wasn't good at all last year, but on his retirement deserves better for a great career.

Matt Cullen deserves respect. I found it annoying when people would rip the guy.

RW give us a good Matt Cullen blog....try not to rip the guy for his last two years as if he were the reason we lost in the playoffs.

I respect Matt Cullen as a hockey player for sure but he was dogpoop the last few years. Both can be true.

Penguins certainly valued Tanev more. Geez. I bet they went after Ferland and they asked for $4M +.

Ferland produces at a 3rd line rate though. Doesn't Kill Penalties. Lots of lingering injuries last season as well. Good value though for what you get, if he remains healthy.

Gardiner should get good money, Dzingel I think will get hosed. His time in CBJ was not ideal for a UFA.

I felt like our whole team played like dogpoop last year aside from the Crosby line and the 3rd line after the Bjugstad acquisition.

I think they wanted a penalty killer. Judging by all the chatter, Tanev was their guy from the end of the season. He was their top UFA to fill a void here. I hope it works.
