Found this on a different site and thought I would post it here. Interesting.
The Blackhawks plan to speak with defenseman Ian Mitchell at their upcoming development camp to see if he will reconsider his plans to remain in college for next season, reports Scott Powers of The Athletic (subscription required). He has had two strong seasons with Denver and with the logjam they had on their back end, going back made some sense. However, the recent trade of Henri Jokiharju to Buffalo has provided a small opening for Mitchell to potentially push for a roster spot so GM Stan Bowman will try to dangle that to see if they can entice the 20-year-old to forego the rest of his college eligibility. - boilermaker100
Let's say this happens and Mitchell makes the team.
Keith - Mitchell
DeHaan/Maata - Murphy
DeHaan/Maatta - Gus
Seabs as 7th D? or does maybe Murphy or Gus go
What about Koekkoek and Dahlstrom?
Maybe Gus, Koekkoek or Dahlstrom to Vegas for Cody Eakin. Vegas saves about 2.5-3M in cap space.
Then AA to someone for a pick or two to help replenish what was traded away in the Shaw deal. Hawks gain 750K in cap space.

The Bears had a kicker in camp named Chris Blewitt (as in blew it). Great name for a kicker. Unfortunately he was cut a few weeks ago. - boilermaker100
That was hilarious when I first saw his name I knew he would be gone. If we can get Robbie Gould back or anyone who can kick a 43 yard field goal this Bears team can be something special. |

I think Gould took some big deal to stay with the 49ers? Not too sure. Agree that we need someone. I'm pretty sure that Blewitt was Parkey in a fake mustache. |

Actually think they tagged him, but he didn't sign the deal, because he wants to come back to Chicago. |

It's pretty slow day when you're responding to your own messages🤣🤣🤣🤣
Can't guarentee him a roster spot, honestly you waive either Dahlstrom or Koekkoek, no big deal
Read an article, about the Hawks young dmen, i smell spin control by the Blackhawks marketing department. It's good to hear Campbell working with the kids, i liked his style, kiss |

Keith (L), Gus (L), Murphy (R), deHaan (L), Maatta (L), Seabrook (R).
There’s 6 - is he going to rotate at 6/7 with Seabrook?
Mitchell could get a roster spot, but rotating in and out of the lineup is probably not what either he or the wean would want. |

Honestly we don't even know if Mitchell is that good? If the kid wants to go back to school, (frank) around for another year and come out as a rookie free agent, not much Bowman can do about it, but please don't trade anymore possible top 4 defensive prospects

If they sign Mitchell, maybe Murphy or Gus goes. Murphy is a candidate since he has the higher cap hit, but Gus could as well since he would bring back a better return.
Either way, maybe they have shown Mitchell they were serious about a roster spot by trading Joki and they will take care of the second deal after he signs.
I would bet Winnipeg would love Murphy or Gus, as they are desperate for help on the blue line after losing a third of their top 6. |

I think we need to slow the roll on Mitchell making the team. I would be happy if he shows he's good enough and ready enough but it's a long shot that he is. I think it's more likely he plays at Denver and then signs after his college season is over - and hopefully the Hawks are still playing games when that happens. |

I am answering your post from pages back...
I was talking about the loophole in the collective bargaining agreement that allows the kids who choose college to become free agents after Aug 15th of the their senior year.
I am not sure it can be closed.... |

Honestly after watching all these highlights of defenseman, if anyone is starting on the Hawks this year as a dman it'll be Boqvist, holy poop the boy is frickin skilled. He looks like Gus offensively but on steroids. I can't wait to see him starting for the Blackhawks he's going to be a star.

Why not? If it's part of the collective bargaining agreement - then it can be changed. It's not a matter of law. In fact, without a collective bargaining agreement the practice of a draft where the team "owns" the rights to a player would not be in keeping with individual rights as it would limit a persons right to choose where they work. Obviously the players understand the viability of the league is dependent of the draft and other provisions in the agreement - but any part of the agreement is negotiable.

I'm thinking similar about Mitchell: he either stays in college to captain Denver for one season where he can lead them to another strong year or goes pro but starts in Rockford until he has proven he's ready to graduate to the NHL whether that's in the latter half of the season or start of next season.
Would love it if Mitchell blew everyone away by impressing in prospect camp then in training camp to earn a starting spot on the Hawks blueline, but there's really nothing that has shown his development trajectory has accelerated his stock that much.
A supposed reason why veterans like Maatta, de Haan, Shaw, and Carpenter were acquired was to buy more time for the prospects to grow at the appropriate rate and not be rushed. |

That's Nalimov's 7th team in 6 seasons. Job hopper. |

That speaks well of him as St.Pete is a top team so they must think he's pretty good. |

Mitchell looks pretty ordinary and small playing against his peers. I don't see him standing out much, I'm beginning to think Boqvist playing in the AHL to start the season, Gus traded at the deadline possibly Murphy, Boqvist coming up.

FWIW, Eklund reporting that the Hawks are one of 2 teams heavily pursuing Rantanen, possibly an offer sheet. Many teams in on Rantanen otherwise. |

His 13th team in 3 years. Not a good sign.
Ps. I'm joking... however it is his 6th team in 4 years. Something is off about this guy. |

I guess I missed the news that Tanner is GM of the Yotes.
