Like you kinda said, good is a relative term.
He is not a good top pairing D man.
He’s an ok #3. Probably a good #4.
I think Ehlers makes sense - sbroads24
I think the biggest reason why risto is on the roster, is the poor return for ror |

I won't be happy to see Risto go, but to me it feels like a foregone conclusion.
If he is gone, Girgs and Larry will be the longest tenured Sabres which feels absurd. |

With Jokiharju, Miller, and Montour, it's no biggie if risto is gone. |

I don’t get why keeping your 2 best defensive forwards is a bad idea???
Especially when the rest of our forwards are pretty average in that area |

Gusev is a winger, NOT a Center
Mostly plays LW
And you’re gonna trust Sobatka to Center all those tough defensive minutes
Seems like a really, really bad idea |

Not anyone can play a 2C. We all know where I stood on ROR, but make no mistake about it, no one was found to replace that point production.
That was the big issue. Mitts should have been in the AHL last year, after the YEARS of watching this team, they have relied on their young guys WAY before they were ready. Half of the success of the old team was how long prospects baked, think Roy, Pommer, Miller, etc...
Mitts should be no higher than a 3C right now TOPS. He's going to look good in camp, as all prospects will and we'll get excited. Then, throughout the season we'll see what they really look like, overmatched.
CM could be a legitimate contender for the 2C position, but I haven't seen anything that suggests he is. Going in to last season with Berglund as a 2C (even if he stayed) was a huge mistake. If we're going to even challenge for playoffs let alone MAKE them, a strong 2C needs to be on the team. I have no confidence that this current roster contains one.
Though we have three pairs of right handed D so something better be in the works. |

To me a 2nd pair RHD is worth a lot more then a 2nd line LW. I would hope we would get more then ehlers in a trade. Especially if he’s looking for “an overpayment” |
|
|
|
Ehlers: 37 pts last year (8 more then okposo)
21 career playoff games: ZERO goals.
6 million cap hit. Yikes.
And people want to trade Risto for him 🙄🙄 |

sobotka has more wheels then larsson

just because they were our best defensive forwards, does not mean they are good
my guess is e-rod and cj smtih would be better suited if given a chance
both are faster, both have played pk and both have a pulse with offensive upside |

I just think it’s based on the Sabres depth. I mentioned this already
(If we do get a 2C for Risto)
Possible 4th line centers:
Larry Sobotka Erod Dark horse asplund
Larry has to beat out all of those centers.
Possible left winger depth chart
Skinner
Olofsson
Johnsson
Sheary
Vesey
Grigensons
Even if mojo is a right winger or center. Girgs needs to beat up the other wingers. Which I doubt he does.

Girgs is the best defensive winger on the roster right now by a mile. He's a lock.
