If Marner wants an 8 year deal you can bet he's asking for 15... You could probably get him at 12.5 for 5 tho....

I'm sure there are plenty of teams fine with 12.5 years, but not for 4 first round picks....

A trade makes way more sense if Nylander insists on a 12.5 deal x5 and Dubas refuses.... So he hold out, or gets trade or Leafs trade Nylander and caves and gives him his 8 year 15 dollar deal...

Of course the Leafs wouldn't even be in this position had they NOT signed Tavares, because when they did that they basically said "oh well lets make a run down" and worry about the future of the team later, and that had to have rubbed Marner and Nylander the wrong way thinking they were going to get paid if they performed and progressed to their abilities... Of course they did, Marner was arguably the best player on the team, yet he should take a "home town discount" really?.... What happens if he signs an 8 year 12 per deal and in year 3 he has a career ending knee injury??? he wants security and I cant blame him, he is also smart enough to know that in 5 years he will absolutely be worth 15, so Marner isn't being greedy - he's being smart and looking out for his own families best interests.... He know what he's worth now and he knows what he's worth in the future......
