3 years remaining at a comfortable salary
the sudden surplus of RD

In another year, his value is more likely to go down than up. There's very little upside to waiting.

Probably the best thing for any player is to go back to junior and have that other year of development, but we’ll see how the summer goes. Dylan is a very good athlete, has great size and a great frame, but he certainly has to get stronger and it is certainly a big jump to the National Hockey League from junior.”

I hope he spends the year there, and after the season he plays in the playoffs with the Amerks. If he has a good showing there, maybe he makes the team next year. Hopefully we can have some success this year so he isn't pressured into starting 2020 with the Sabres if he isn't ready
