It is time that the Sabres made a couple of additional moves to take this team to the next level. I propose that we deal on July 18 after Lucic gets his $3 million bonus as follows:
Ristolainen ($5.4million next three years)
Scandela ($4.0 million for one year)
Sobotka ($3.5 million for one year)
Wilson ($1.05 million for one year)
Plus Buffalo's 6th round pick in 2020
For
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins ($6.0 million next two years)
Milan Lucic ($6 million next four years, where Edmonton pays $2 million of his salary for each of the next 4 years)
Jesse Puljujarvi ($1 million RFA for 1 year Maybe)
Edmonton's 4th round pick in 2021)
Eichel would play with Skinner & Olafsson/Pomminville on the 1st line
Nugent Hopkins would play with Reinhart and C J Smith/ Sheary on the 2nd line
Mittlestadt would play Lucic/Sheary/Thompson and Okposo/Puljujarvi on the 3rd line
Larsson would play with Girgensons and Lucic/Thompson/Sheary/Smith/Pomminville on the 4th line
This is 14 forwards, but you manage the load by never allowing the older forwards to play back to back games or only play if someone is injured or one of the younger players is not going.
Pomminville, Lucic, Okposo, Thompson or whoever is not playing well sit out
Pomminville has to sign a 1 year contract for $2million knowing that he will play about 60 games. Hunwick needs to sign a contract extension.
On defense you have
Dahlin Montador
Jokiharju Miller
McCabe Begosian
Hunwick Pilut
Casey Nelson and Willie Borgen
For the expansion draft, you then have Lucic and Okposo available.
To me this looks like the best trade option for Buffalo other than sending:
1) Okposo to Nashville for Turris where we take on an extra $6million for the fifth year of the contracts and get someone who can play center for a winger
2)Risto and Wilson to Philly for Couturier and a prospect defenseman
3)Risto and Sobotka to Columbus for Boon Jenner and Dennis Savard/Nick Foligno
Hope these ideas make sense
Risto, Scandella, sobotka and a couple of pickS for Kopitar would be great as well.
Hopefully Botterill is still out there working the phones - RicoMartin

CJ Smith
Sobotka to Iceland
Thatās an NHL lineup - sbroads24
Not nearly far enough away.
The middle of the ocean roughly 1100 miles SW off the cost of Perth is a better place. |

I think itās looking like a playoff team. If the coaching/goaltending is up to par.
That and trading Ristolainen for a legit forward.
We have a young franchise center and franchise D man. Thatās incredibly important
We have acquired depth with playoff experience in Miller and Johansson
Other solid young D depth in Montour/Joker who werenāt here or here all of last year
Mittelstadt will be better. Olofsson could be a shockingly good player
This team is one move away from being pretty dangerous.
Its a good time to be a Sabre fan - sbroads24
True, but the forward roster as of today is top heavy and its success is predicated on the development of Mittelstadt and Olofsson's ability to score 20+ goals. Not unreasonable by any means, but still it's reliant on what-ifs rather than proven talent. There's some definite quality, buts it's still short of proven quantity. |

What about this Risto for Mantha talk?
- Powerslave
Mantha for Risto straight up is not worth Risto. Easy pass
Also Mantha hasnāt lived up to his draft hype.
Mantha would be the wings version of nylander
-Sabretooth9
Huh?
Martha had 25goals in 67games last year
Thatās a pace of over 30goals for the season
He had 24 goals the year before
And 17goals in 60games as a rookie (23goal pace)
So Iād say heās a pretty well established young scoring winger
Are u maybe thinking of someone else???

A move will come randomly in a few weeks, if it happens at all. My sense is they'd like to address the forward position by moving a defenseman, but only if the price is right.

Then quote tweeted by McKenzie with the addition of āwe know teams have called about Ristolainen. I donāt know if Botterill will want to move a valuable piece. It will come with a large asking price.ā |

I think trading a dman, probably 2 has to happen. Canāt go into the season with 11 or 12 nhl dmen even if two are hurt and a couple really suck. |

I don't think he meant "signs with Buffalo".
Once he signs with someone, the Risto deal happens. |

I understand that aspect. Iām just wondering if Gardiner is a left handed shot, is he in the same market as Risto. |
