Yeah sorry. Wasn’t clear enough. Like they didn’t make Head way before but now since he is signed have put some focus on it. - peesinwind

It’s really not that complicated.
Is Hagg a legit NHL Dman? Yes
Is he a good NHL Dman? No
Is he a guy who should never be more than a 7/8 depth guy on a Cup contender? Yes
And that, kids, is that. |

I cannot believe how fundamentally bad the Phillies play baseball. How much longer can Kapler last? |

I don't get how they can go out and throw 300 million at one player and then not be buying pitching when they so badly need it. |

Haag is still young for a defenseman. He's 24 years old and has played 2 NHL seasons. He has room to grow as a player. I think he's being underrated somewhat. The book is not written on him yet.

Maybe, but I just don’t see the hockey sense in him that a Dman needs to be successful, and I don’t think that’s something that can be taught. |

He still has value. Out of all the D plunders that the Flyers have amassed over the past several years he is not the most exciting or one with high end potential.
I don’t see a big future with the Flyers.
But he is an NHL caliber D man. I agree with BiggE in the fact that on a cup team he is not a guy you want on the ice. Right now
MJL is right that his future is not done. The guy is young and D are funny in their development. I get BiggE that maybe he doesn’t have the smarts but he can hit the piss out of guys.
I hope he gets squeezed out of the Flyers’ line up because of pure talent but he will stay in the NHL for a long time. There are a lot of teams without the Flyers’ riches. |

He made it to the NHL as a 2nd round pick through the AHL. You don't do that without hockey sense. He's not a ultra talented puck mover and scorer from the back end. He needs to get more consistent and handle the puck better but he has showed plenty of promise as a player that may be able to be a solid 3rd pair NHL defender with a physical edge to his game.

How about Braun? People on this site crush him and act like he is not worth a couple picks but the dude is a solid NHLer. Top 4 talent.
Again I fall back to my soft argument that the GM was targeting him for a reason. He saw a fit. Not sure he is right but he has more hockey smarts then me so I wi go along with it until I see otherwise.
Hägg gives the Flyers some needed depth there along with Morin (who I secretly think is going to be a stud on the back end and on the PK)
They have a great top six right now when you can’t see either one of those two studs in the line up. This D has some great depth. |

Yeah, nice read and thanks for posting. Keeping track of all the college boys is different then I’m used to. 10 years ago not so many high prospects took the
College route. But now a days we are seeing more and more. Maybe with the influx of US development players it is becoming a more popular route. Able to slide all those ELC years is helpful. European players help in this regard also.

Considering our prospect depth, I was thinking this too. I used to only follow a couple or handful of guys I thought would make the Flyers. Now that has changed as they have so many that could make it. Bill is helping to educate me.

We only have a few high end guys but the over all depth is awesome. It is the way of building teams now. Build from the draft. They will need those ELC deals to keep it under the cap. Have to recycle young talent in the lineup. They can’t sign all these D prospects when the deals end. The kids are going to get paid. That is why York and other D in the pipeline are so important. |

Yep. It’s fun to root for favorites, but I know they won’t all be able to play for the Flyers. And depth at one time may force some to be traded or not re-signed. Kind of like if they go into the season with 8 d-men; eventually as they get a look, barring injuries, I would imagine someone goes.

If Morin is in line up that means Ghost or Sanheim has been traded, or Provy is holding out. I can't see us trading Sanheim, despite Eks rumor. Once Provy signs, d logjam gets a little clearer. I would assume Hagg is out and Morin is 7th. But what do I know. I believe Myers is the only young d waiver exempt. It will be interesting.
My honest opinion is that we need Big Sam in the line up. But can't justify it over Ghost or Sanheim.

That depends if they run Sanheim on his off side...if Provy/Sandman, Ghost/Nisky you absolutely could do Morin/Braun and have Hagg as 7 |

Good problem to have when you can’t find a way to get either Morin or Myers in the line up.
The kids will play themselves into the line up. |
