He's taking all the risk, imo. Not sure there are a lot of players that would want to take the risk. - Frizzlefry
Risk is really the wrong word here. There's no upside. It's just a flat out loss. A 1 year 3m deal is still a steal for the team. It's so extreme that it demands suspicion.

Where is Gerbe with his, "Great! Now I'm going to have to watch Nylander lift the Conn Smythe! "? - Powerslave
I already know he’s going to be good
But When you acquire a number one and a low calling number two defenseman you automatically win the trade |

When trades are made ..... at the time of the trades. How good was the player doing on your team?
Like ROR wasn’t what he was with the Sabres playing on the blues
Nylander the same thing. He will be used much differently.
I wouldn’t sweat too much about them. |

Probably late to the party on this one but if Mitts after one year in the NHL struggles as a 2C why do we think a kid is going to make the jump from the OHL to a 2C? I'm glad he's going back to junior. As Sabres fans we've seen what happens rushing development of players, plugging them in believing they're legit NHL players to find out, no they aren't.
Find your 2C via trade or suffer with what you have and try next year. |

Probably because they are two different human beings, who played in two different leagues prior to the NHL, will be coached by two different coaches at the pro level, and will play with different support (be it different players or utilization) around them.
Other than that, no real differences. |

I don't think that anyone has been marketing him as a 2C right now though? All I've heard is RW somewhere in the top 9 because of how thin we are there. |

That’s the problem with college players ..... they can sign when they want to and have some power / say when they come out
Mitts signed because he wanted to go pro and told the Sabres he won’t sign if they send him to Rochester. Hence why he was never sent to roch.
Cozens signed and now has no say when he can play on the Sabres or where he will play next year or the year after that. |

Apart from every player is different, and they all shouldn't be judged the same.. idk. I'm not saying that Cozens is ready, I'm saying that saying because Mitts wasn't ready doesn't mean one GD thing about Cozens, like at all. |

Cozens deserves his 9 game tryout unless he absolutely sucks during the Preseason. The Sabres have nothing to lose by him playing the try out games.
The Sabres didn’t have that option with mitts |

JBotts' reasoning for drafting college kids and Euros seems to have been thrown out the window with Mitts. I wish he would have stayed in college at least another year. I think the center position requires your body to develop more than a winger (and defense requires even longer in most cases) hence why if Cozens is even being considered, RW would make sense. I think he can still develop properly in the NHL starting on the wing, and possibly even develop quicker than going back to Lethbridge. |

Perhaps I read the article wrong. That is what I thought it implied.
Edit: I see the part about putting him on wing. I still think putting him top 6 would be a mistake. |

Mitts was the most recent comparison, I can't list out all the people who were put in place too early.
