At least when you look at him you can remember you won't have to watch Nikita Zaitsev for an additional 4 years
- RickJames77

I didn’t have to watch Zaitsev last year.

Whenever he was on the ice, I would cover my eyes out of fear.

"Ceci was the perfect fit."

Has never be uttered by anybody ever and should never be uttered.

He's a right handed replacement for Zaitsev and his contract is up after one year. You can't get a much better fit than that.

Ottawa was a tire fire. It would not surprise me to see Cody Ceci have a good year in Toronto and re-sign for a reasonable amount if they do well with him in the lineup. Still, I'd prefer to have Barrie extended. All the Barrie naysayers are going to be in for a big surprise now that he plays in a market with way more media coverage. He is pretty fantastic.

Ceci was the perfect fit... to be healthy scratched when everyone is healthy.

I think he will be better on the Leafs.

Still just a 3rd pairing.

He could be an NHL calibre player. That would be a better fit.

Unless he magically turns it around and it has all just been poop tier Ottawa smoke and mirrors, I think I'd prefer the latter.
- AdamFrench

Didn't he have pretty suspect numbers when the Sens overperfomed that year and decided to go for it with a poop team and trade their first in a massive overpayment for Duchence? I like to lay out that last part because a little senator schadenfreude will unite us all and give us a boost.

look the point is you can never go wrong with a player who learned how to play NHL defence in Ottawa these last few years

This is still a strong possibility.

Just allow the guy to come to Toronto and gradually work the kinks out of his game.

As long as the fans are reasonable and view this as a long term project. Allow him to make mistakes, while building his confidence.

What could possibly go wrong?

Really? I mean...I'm not a fan of either of them. Especially at that AAV. But they are essentially the same player in my opinion. So I can't see anyone preferring 4 years of Zaitsev over 1 year of Ceci. To each his own tho I suppose.

He's had suspect numbers his entire career at all times with every partner. Even in the miracle year. He's an offensive defenseman being forced to play defense first who can't pass. He can shoot though. Have to give him that.

I thought he had been more prolific as a junior, and then discovered he'd been cut by the World Junior team twice as well. He had success overall in the O, but the flaws in his game were obviously noticed by the Team Canada coaching staff.

It's weird how everyone thinks Leafs have no money.
Barrie wants 8 milion per? Done. He's worth it.

Muzzin wants 6? (frank) off. Not worth it.

Let's wait to see how he gels with the team before we make him the 5th highest paid defenseman in the league.

if his d is as average as they say 8 mil does sound like a lot. perhaps he's better than people are saying though, we have a season to find out.
