Flames never developed Bennet correctly and haven't given him the chance to succeed...he's never going to score like he was projected with the shallow center depth of the flames...

Anyone wonder if the Flames (or another org) will take a shot with Nichuskin? Big bodied RW, might not be a bad Hathaway replacement on the cheap and could maybe play up lineup if he can find his scoring ability again? Apparently was ably killing penalties last year, but had a groin injury at the start of the season that he never really recovered from. Worth a shot, or back to the K?

Outside of the Bennett and other RFA talk, he could be a cheaper Frolik if he can start to score again...

My (semi)bold predictions because I'm bored and none of these are likely to happen or necessarily make sense:

Bennett - 2 years, $2.75 per on another prove it deal
Stone - buyout following final arb case
Frolik - traded to the Sens or Devils for a 3rd rounder
Brodie - traded to Jets or Ducks for either Lowry or Ritchie + picks
Bring back Engelland or sign Petrovic for 7D
Bring in Bryan Boyle for depth/size
Chucky signs 5*8.5
Ritter signs 2 * 3.25

JG Mony Lindy
Chucky Backlund Bennett
Mang Janko Neal
Ritchie/Lowry Boyle Ryan

Gio Ras
Hannifin Hamonic
Vali Kylington

Press box - Czarnik/Dube Engelland

Hunk's head explodes and the offseason is complete...

Can Bennett do a pull-up yet? I’m unclear on this.

Have to feel bad for the kid...I'm sure he sees the kadri decision, stone declining a trade from Ottawa, Smith declining to sign with the flames, and hopes one day he too will be able to JUST SAY NO...

Kind of like McDavid when he saw the golden Oiler card turned destroying his destiny.

BTW if Flames are actually contemplating getting rid of Sam - The Ducks will take him off your hands in heartbeat...

Actually reminds me of a great Duck at least for the cup run in Travis Moen...

Damn that was a great line - Sammy Pahlsson / Robbie Neids and Moen..

- dozerD10

How are things in SOCal, I hope to get to a Flames game in Anaheim for the next season. Keep on rocking bud!!!

Yeah Travis Moen. Flames gave up on him really early. No wonder we sucked so bad back then.

I think Bennett has become a solid middle 6 guy for the Flames. He was one of two players that showed up and looked good all 5 games in the playoffs.

That said it is insane to compare his potential at this point to 3 hall of famers and 3 players who were nominated for the Hart, 2 of which won.

I couldn't help but think/hope we had found a Doug Gilmour clone after seeing his performance in the playoffs during his rookie season. Those turned out to be pretty lofty expectations.

I'm still a fan of Bennett and I think he's the type of player teams need to have in order to win a cup. It's looking like he's more Tomas Holmstrom than Doug Gilmour, but damn would I love to have a Holmstrom clone

- Saskabush

Actually that is true... he was compared in his draft year to Doug Gilmour and that's why I wanted the Oilers to draft him.

I would honestly like to see them give Bennett a chance with top end talent on his line. No he isn't going to carry a line like one would hope a 4th overall pick would. But give him high skilled line mates and see where it goes. But also give it a real chance. Not 1 game or 2. Give it a dedicated period to see if it works out. Often I find that it seems like Bennett is trying to do too much. Hold the puck too long and then gets caught up and loses it. Its not this simple but perhaps in part its because the players he is with on his line don't give him a better option. He's trying to drag a player like James Neal along with him and it just isn't happening.

Assuming that Frolik will be gone, drop Lindholm to the line with Backlund and Tkachuck. Defensively it is a better fit and was a move that was done a lot last year anyways.

Then give Bennett a real chance on the top line with Monahan and Gaudreau. Have to think he will add the grit and physicality that line always seems to lack (like they had when Ferland was there). And in the past Bennett has provided numbers when he has played along side Gaudreau. He doesn't have to carry that line, and he needs to know that. He just needs to play his style of game and find that skill set, that he used to have, to play along them. Be physical. Be that "dog on a bone" that we have see for him to retrieve the puck. Then get it to Johnny so that he can drive that line and Bennett can contribute and finish as needed. Be a net front presence and a pain in the ass to the other team. Really a slightly less physical, but higher end offensive potential version of what Ferland was.

I know it has been tried before, but only ever in 1 or 2 game stints and usually to cover an injury. Never enough real time for them to develop anything resembling real chemistry. Start it in training camp. Give it a real shot. Yes it will be on Bennett to hold up his end, and it may not work out. But if it does and he can find the offensive skill that he once had it may work out.

Flames better do something this offseason, or they will be in for a rude awakening come October.

Damn I really wish that Kadri deal had went through, would've been huge for the team.

That said, Tre should still be trying to make a big trade involving one of our D men. Brodie, or heck trade Noah- could get a nice return for him.

Truth be told Gaudreau played RW in College & I would like to see them move Lindholm down with Tkachuk & Backlund, move Gaudreau to the right side & bump Benny up to the LW on that line.

Reading an analytics nerd say that Bennett had better underlying numbers playing centre than when he played with Backlund. Maybe it's time to put Bennett at centre, Tkachuk on the LW & Lindholm down on the RW. Would be a pretty solid defensively responsible line. The issue would be we would be back to auditioning the likes of Neal, Mangi or someone else on the top line. In that scenario, Backlund moves to 3rd line & will make Janko a trade piece with Brodie to maybe get a RW. Would Canadiens do a Brodie & Janko for Gallaghr swap? Maybe Minny would do Zucker & a pick for those two?

A rude awakening? The Flames easily won the division last year and every other team that mattered got worse. The Flames are only slightly worse. The only thing the Flames need to figure out is how they're going to stay motivated when they're running away with the division again.

silly flames fan...I think he was thinking of something more than reg season success...setting the bar low with reg season banners as usual are we??? Getting quite bent over in the playoffs by kadri's avs does not make a successful season...might as well get the higher draft pick then get blown out...esp when your best player in the series leaves you for the oilers...

Honestly, someone should hire this guy to do this routine at Yuk Yuks. He has quite a career opportunity. All he has to do is wear a paper bag over his head & call him the unknown disillusioned Oiler troll.
