Further to the tweet I posted here yesterday, someone translated Panarin's full interview with the Russian press. For someone who grew up when the USSR athletes were dominating and with a perception that they were controlled totally by the State, it was fascinating to see a Russian athlete speak out so candidly. Particularly fascinating since during his whole time in Chicago, we never really got to know him because of the language barrier. Would not have guessed at the depths of his thinking.
I consider his doing this pretty brave.

Teenager being a teenager perhaps?
Traded one immature skater problem for another (as you say, at 23, Nylander hasn’t committed to a 200 foot game - and wasn’t very accepting of his demotions to Rochester). - StLBravesFan
Your point is still valid but Nylander just turned 21 in March - he's not 23.

Regarding Joki I also read that he did not take direction when it came to training - that Joki and his Father had a plan and that he didn’t need to listen to the team.
Teams like the Hawks want players who are easy to work with. Don’t want players who swim against the current. Hawks trying to spin it but know they aren’t happy with Mitchell. That is the reason he is not part of post-Prospect Camp intensive training for other young D. - Z3Hawk
Got that sense from the Stan comments after trying to convince Mitchell to stay. That they were not sold on his rationale for going back to Denver. Think they're still high on his skills and potential, but got sense they were expecting him to show more desire to be here.
Just reading into comments and some of Powers' articles, etc.
Side note - I have never seen such a fequent use of "I" as I did in Mitchell's blogs from the camp (he is their featured blogger this year). memememememememe |

So you are saying:
Nylander – Toews – Kane
ADB – Strome – Kubalik
Saad – Kurashev – Shaw
Caggiula – Kampf – Entwistle
That leaves one roster spot for Carpenter, Smith, Perlini, Sikura, Dach, Wedin, Hagel, Highmore, Soderlund, Saarela to fight over.
A) Stan has at least one more move to make.
B) Rockford should be loaded

From what I have been reading Kurashev has speed to burn, although watching the WJHC, didn't really see that, I saw the quick release and offensive skills though. |

Z3 - sorry... can you elaborate on this? - Tyler Cameron
I think he's just adding his personal opinion. Does this camp even exist?
Nice write up TC! |

That Panarin interview was outstanding. I liked Panarin as a person before because of his upbeat personality and I like him even more after reading that interview.

Have to give him props, takes a lot of nerve especially with the media members who have had "accidents" happen to them.

I really like this guy. He's a really smart hockey player.
Kurashev is 6'0 / 192 lbs as well... so he's physically there as an NHLer.
I think it's a long-shot to make the team out of camp, however, I wouldn't be shocked to see him at some point next year. - Tyler Cameron
To me Kusashev was impressive during the preseason last year. He just seemed much more physically mature on the ice compared to many of the other young guys. Takes some of the sting out of the Ejdsell disappointment to see Kurashev and Beaudin heading in a positive direction.
One spot that could open up in the next 12 months is Caggiula's. He is RFA and probably gonna get some form of pay bump too. Kubalik will be an interesting one to watch too, because his deal is only a one year. If he plays well he could price himself out of Chicago. |

Yes - I should have stuck to my usual habit of confirming things like that on hockey-reference or some other site.

Kane is rarely not perfecting his craft:
https://twitter.com/CRoum...tatus/1152217528506245120
And it looks like he's become a bit of a pied piper for the young guys on the team (and Toews to a degree). DBC, Saad, Strome, Toews (at least) all stayed behind to train with Kane and his trainers this summer. |

As of now, Mitchell plans to return to Denver after camp ends Friday instead of staying in Chicago for two more weeks of training with team staff, like many of the Hawks’ other top prospects are doing. His captaincy duties at Denver will begin promptly.

I'm no hockey expert or guru by any stretch of the imagination but I have to disagree with the prevailing perspective amongst pundits who say Nylander was above everyone else and really didn't have to be at camp. He wasn't horrible but he wasn't a standout either. Same with Boqvist, to be honest.
While I still believe in Nylander and Boqvist being top prospects and future difference makers for the Hawks, to me the standouts were:
FORWARDS
Dach: phenomenal skater, physically strong, and very commanding of every second he is on the ice; dominates the play whether or not he has the puck
Hagel: just flat out hustles and his compete level is sky high; shifty and elusive
Kurashev: not flashy but just subtly good on both sides of the puck; he beat a lot of defenders and it was also tough to beat him defensively
Teply: he was the surprise prospect, IMO; great compete level with imposing size; showed a willingness to defend hard; strong release and wicked shot |

If other Alex can find the soft spots on that left side and his release is as goof as advertised maybe they get a beefier Patrick Sharp type player that just rips one timers and shoots the zone early...
Which isn't a bad thing. |

The point wasn't to correct a spelling error - it was to make the point that a 21 year old is far less deemed an irretrievable bust than a 23 year old.

Prospect camp standouts
DEFENSEMEN
Beaudin: similar to Kurashev in that he's not flashy but just subtly good in all facets; silky smooth stride; great potential to QB the powerplay just as much as Boqvist
Krys: displayed an endless compete level consistently engaging the other team defensively while also putting on accurate shots on net; excellent skater with tight turns and great edge work
Mitchell: it's so fun to watch him skate; very powerful, agile, and quick no matter skating ahead, backwards, or laterally; while Beaudin is a subtly supreme skater, Mitchell is an expressively supreme skater; aggressively engages the puck handler like Krys
Vlasic: towering frame; deceptively strong skater who moves as if he's a nimble sub-6 footer; good defensively and will continue to get better as he matures; really just scratching the surface
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Entwistle, Hakkarainen, Slavin, Galvas |

I saw Bowman's interview about Mitchell and he was dead panned and saying all the right things, but his tone sounded disappointed. I kept imagining him muttering under his breath, but but but i i i traded Joki so so so he would sign with us, like Milton and his swingline stapler |

Out of the possibilities TC mentioned, Nylander in the top 6 is my pick to click. Big body, skill guy. If he can be a net front presence, he could stick. His acquisition muddied the waters for Perlini. Trade him for best possible return and move forward. |
