Dach is just so silky with the puck and his reach is really an asset

Is it me, or is Dach struggling a bit? One game is not everything, but he seems to be having his pocket picked a lot.

Your point is still valid but Nylander just turned 21 in March - he's not 23.

I’m not a fan of giving up too soon on talented young players who have not yet reached emotional maturity.

Brian Campbell being a mentor for Boqvist is such a good fit. I get flashbacks to soupy when watching him play.

I hope it works out for him...but Nylander has always looked good at the development camps and even to start the season, yet hasn't been able to maintain the consistency demanded at the NHL level.

Maybe the change of scenery will do it for him

Assuming that's true about Joker, then the trade makes sense on both sides..

Since last year both Kurashev and Entwhistle are two guys who I saw that I thought could have a VERY bright future with this Hawks team. I would be surprised if either made it out of camp but I wouldn't be shocked if they get a cup of coffee with the team IF they play well in Rockford.

I know it's been said already but I think Jake Wise is a guy who by mid season we will be taking about in the same way that we did with some of the other prospects last year as wow this kid looks really good now that he's healthy.

It's good to see a big man able to skate like he does, he's going to be a big pain in the ass to play against

Actually I’m with Z3 on this one, Jokiharju wanted to train with his dad and his aerobics instructor. I kinda got the idea he wanted to do things his way.

I stand corrected on observations I made in the last blog about a 1-on-1 drill between Entwistle and Saarela. In that drill Entwistle used his size and reach to his advantage to snub Saarela at every turn. That part still is true and is a testament to how industrious and defensively sound Entwistle is.

However, I got the Saarela brothers mixed up. Younger brother Antti is the one at camp while older brother Aleksi is not. I thought I was watching Aleksi in that drill. My comment was that Saarela (who I thought was Aleksi) reminded me of Skille and Morin, i.e. a guy who shoots a lot but with poor shot selection. Aleksi has been a goal scorer in two AHL seasons but Skille and Morin were similar as well.

Antti, though, is a defensively responsible, shift disturbing bottom 6 forward. His offensive skills are limited so it now makes sense why he didn't fare well against Entwistle. In today's scrimmage, I do like what I see so far from Antti given that he is projected to be a bottom sixer at the pro level.

he refused to listen to the staff on anything to do with his offensive game.

Oh C'mon...this has got to be 99% pure speculation, no? Correct me if I'm way off base but how could you or any other fan/writer possibly have that level of detailed insight into his interactions with the coaching staff...it's not like either of those parties involved are going to leak it.

A team that just traded a prospect after pumping him up for a couple years has plenty of incentive to leak negative info to 'splain the trade.

Further to the tweet I posted here yesterday, someone translated Panarin's full interview with the Russian press. For someone who grew up when the USSR athletes were dominating and with a perception that they were controlled totally by the State, it was fascinating to see a Russian athlete speak out so candidly. Particularly fascinating since during his whole time in Chicago, we never really got to know him because of the language barrier. Would not have guessed at the depths of his thinking.

I consider his doing this pretty brave.

I’m guessing he has no intention of ever returning to Mother Russia.

Prospect camp standouts

DEFENSEMEN

Beaudin: similar to Kurashev in that he's not flashy but just subtly good in all facets; silky smooth stride; great potential to QB the powerplay just as much as Boqvist

Krys: displayed an endless compete level consistently engaging the other team defensively while also putting on accurate shots on net; excellent skater with tight turns and great edge work

Mitchell: it's so fun to watch him skate; very powerful, agile, and quick no matter skating ahead, backwards, or laterally; while Beaudin is a subtly supreme skater, Mitchell is an expressively supreme skater; aggressively engages the puck handler like Krys

Vlasic: towering frame; deceptively strong skater who moves as if he's a nimble sub-6 footer; good defensively and will continue to get better as he matures; really just scratching the surface

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Entwistle, Hakkarainen, Slavin, Galvas

- AEL_Fox

We all know where this is going if Mikael Hakkarainen ever makes the team.

I would like to see him STICK on a line with Toews and maybe Kane. But, especially Toews as his center. If he doesn't stay focused with "Captain Serious" next to him every shift, well...we know we got a dud. BUT....I think he may fit OK with Toews. And, if he did....the next 3 lines begin to take shape REAL nicely!!!!
