Dreger would simply point to the Aho offer sheet and tell you he was correct all along.

We didn't really get an offer sheet. We just got a lesson in how not to offer sheet.

Maybe Darren Ferris wants to prove what a great agent he is. In the NHLPA website under certified agents, Most agents list the school attended and the degree attained.
For Ferris it's attended York University. It must take a special talent to flunk out of York.

there's definitely a generational difference... the previous generations wanted to be rewarded for what they had done... the young guys want to get paid for what they "MIGHT" do.

- BorjeFan4Ever

It has nothing to do with generations. There’s a whole lot of players Marner’s age who can’t demand the same kind of contract. The market has changed and young elite players are pushing to be paid as elite players regardless of whether they are RFAs

We cant use the words "untradeable" anymore. So many deals have been done for contracts we thought would never move.

Any contract is tradable. Some are just harder than others. These two basically have equally "unmovable" contracts tho. So to me, if this ends up a one for one deal, then it seems mostly like a trade just to make a trade. Based on their skillsets however, I'd bet on Neal turning things around & becoming a good player long before Lucic.

Fans are so stupid about this.

The Oilers may have traded Lucic, but they haven't traded "the problem with Lucic" - an aging player who sucks and isn't worth the cap hit.

Yeah, I think the Oilers figure Neal might be able to provide a better scoring touch on the Wing, and the Flames are looking for some toughness. . .

It's a "Maybe your crap will be less crappy here." trade.

How do we feel about Trouba: 7 years X $8 million?

Sure but they still moved. People thought they were impossible to move. Like the leafs moving Phaneuf or Ottawa moving it.

I also agree Neal is worth a gamble for Edmonton and save 250k.

Could work out, for me, he hasn't done enough for that contract, just my opinion.

The Oilers retained some of Lucic's salary didn't they?

yeah, so neal has lot tough miles on his body.

and he is coming off a career low season.

and may have lost a step, or 2.

and he'll be 32 in september.

and has 4 more years.

at 5.7M.

but, he wants to prove he is still an nhl player.

and he's been working out harder than he has in years.

and he has poured down a poop ton of gary roberts shakes.

i really can't see how this continues being terrible for edmonton.

This is going to be a problem going forward. A bunch of RFAs getting paid on "potential" and "promise" and fail to deliver. However they all think they deserve a raise.

I think he should sign for 6 to 6.5 million.

He just needs to get back to playing a simple game.

Not trying to do too much.

Trust his teammates.

Take it one shift at a time, and focus on doing the little things right.

Because 2 points in October counts the same as 2 points in April.

How is that a problem. Of course you pay for potential just like you draft for potential. It’s up to the team to determine the potential value of a player and negotiate accordingly. Good teams are better at making those assessments.
