I'd add St Louis Cardinals, with their success and the list of HOF players through the years, onto that list. While the Cubbies and Red Sox are indeed historic baseball franchises, they were always the historically "cursed" losers.

I can get behind that line of thinking. Bottom line is Buffalo isn't anywhere near that level for hockey.

And Skinner is a lot better in other areas than Laine.

I honestly wouldn’t call Skinner one dimensional.

He’s feisty, creates a ton of turnovers and penalties and no matter who he’s played with his team is better with him on the ice

- sbroads24

I call Skinner one dimensional all the time. I don't consider fore-checking or diving to be dimensions. Nice skills certainly. No one will ever call him well rounded or two-way.

The idea that you can play Eichel with two wings who are atrocious defensively is crazy to me. I don't know how you can build the core of your team like that.

I mean sure, if you think hockey has only two dimensions

Edit- And I think it’s absolutely fair to say he’s not a “two-way player”

I just think he’s not one dimensional either.

Skinner also can score various types of goals. He can score down low, on the rush, or just with his shot.

He’s a pretty damn good player in a lot of ways

At one point Eichel was between Foligno and Girgs so this is not outlandish, just ridiculous

Didn't really say that. Honestly....do you consider fore-checking a dimension? Feels like a stretch to me.

Anyone who thinks Skinner is one-dimensional clearly only has a one-track mind.

He is excellent at drawing penalties, he can skate like the wind, he came back defensively a ton last year and he has that energy that people feed off of. Laine has none of those traits. Laine is a true sniper and that's it.

The only way Laine works on Buffalo is if we get a #2 center, and that would mean Reinhart and Ristolainen are no longer on this team.

So does some combination of

Risto and Skunk + picks and prospects: OUT

Laine and a potential #2C: IN.

Only way we can swing this is by looking to teams like Florida and San Jose for a #2C and I don't see those teams moving Hertl or Trocheck.

Also, Ristolainen is 100% going the other direction if Laine is coming here so then we have to dump Reinhart off for a 2C and I don't see Skunk as anything more than a 2nd line RW who can play up on the 1st line once in a while but he doesn't have the capacity to be a legit 1RW, imo.

Absolutely. Especially having a knack for causing turnovers.

Forechecking is one of the most important things a winger can do, are you serious?

Yeah i’ll disagree I don’t see Matthews winning a rocket trophy

And if Patrick Laine didn’t have that fluke no goal streak he probably have 50 this year

- gerbe75pts

Skinner would have too

Patrick Laine Had 20 goals in November and had A weird fluke after he probably would of won the rocket

Who would you take Matthews or Patrick Laine from the circle to score the winner ?

True, but changing the unis so drastically still seems to disrupt the legacy, idk if that's the right word, of the Buffalo Sabres.
Their original uniforms were classic and should never have been messed with, beyond more than maybe minor tweaks. The original Buffalo Sabres logo is still among the best logos in any & all sports (imo). Why they ever went away from it is mind boggling, at least to me it is.
And black & red looks like Ottawa, ytf would you want to look like Ottawa?

Didn't call it unimportant, just that I don't consider it as a dimension. I think most people consider Skinner one dimensional. Clearly there's more dimensions in your universe than mine.

Don't care about snark. I agree with you 95% of the time, and on Skinner in general. Arguing dimension vs skill isn't really leading anywhere interesting.

They’d kinda be wrong though.

Skinner is one of the leagues best players in terms of WAR/GAR, which while it’s flawed, it’s purpose is to incorporate as many aspects of the game as possible

Skinner excels in way too many areas to be one dimensional

Panthers have no one to replace him with as 2C.
Think Vinny is untouchable, at least for now....at least he better be.

By definition if he can only score, that's one dimension, if he does anything else he isnt one dimensional.

Dimensions, Skills, Components, Aspects, Areas....they all mean something slightly different. Dissecting it is boring, even in July.
- Lunaion

Then why are you going on about it?

Jeff Skinner is simply NOT a one-dimensional player. He isn't a two-way forward or an all around beast, but he scores from anywhere on any type of shot, is in position almost always, gets back on defense when needed and is a general pain in the ass to play against.

In a bubble, where they both are on the right circle on the PP, Laine. In every other, and I do mean every other facet, Matthews, and it's not close. And that includes scoring goals. But Laine is an absolute threat on the half wall on the PP.

Haha right? Because this happen so often for even the best in the league. I mean, we might as well call him a 100 goal winger, because, you know, he averages 20 a month.
