In a bubble, where they both are on the right circle on the PP, Laine. In every other, and I do mean every other facet, Matthews, and it's not close. And that includes scoring goals. But Laine is an absolute threat on the half wall on the PP.

Then why are you going on about it?

Jeff Skinner is simply NOT a one-dimensional player. He isn't a two-way forward or an all around beast, but he scores from anywhere on any type of shot, is in position almost always, gets back on defense when needed and is a general pain in the ass to play against.

It was interesting at the start. I like Skinner and defend him here regularly. I don't need to be sold on his value.

Sam Reinhart and a first for Warren Foegel.
Risto and a VO for Evander Kane

Foegel and Kane are elite at drawing penalties which amounts to about 1.3 more goals per year.

I think the main point is the comparison to Laine.

Skinner is just far better in most other aspects.

To say they’re both one dimensional is unfair to Skinner

I have yet to see you post what Laine is good at besides shooting.

So you’ve resorted to taking one point and running away into ridiculousness.

Because his previous two years say otherwise

So he has multiple 20 goal months?

You are an idiot. Nothing is done in a vacuum.

Yep, vacuum is spelled with two ‘u’s. Just saying.

Buffalo fans.

We want good players on this team.
But not that good player or that one.
Let’s go find pretty (frank)ing meaningless stats to show why player is not good. Who cares is said player can score 35-40 goals per year consistently.

We also don’t want to give up anything to get them nor do we want to pay their salaries. We need cap 16 years down the road to pay for the guys we are going to draft in 10 years.

Because goals in one of a hundred things that we should use to evaluate a player.

Laine scores goals.

He’s also beyond terrible at defense

Beyond bad at driving play

Doesn’t draw penalties

Doesn’t carry the puck well

If we had drafted him that would be one thing

I have 0 interest trading a bunch of assets for him (it’s gonna cost more than Risto)
And paying him anywhere from 8-10 mil

- sbroads24

Laine EV goals have gone from

27 to 24 to 15

Maybe he just isn’t developing and had a unsustainable rookie season

- sbroads24

Season 2 looks very similar to season 1
It’s no secret he had struggles last year
He was moved up & down the lineup pretty frequently

So far, makes more sense to say season 3 was the aberration & not the norm

It’s kinda alarming that while a player is supposed to be developing he’s trending in the wrong direction

Funny, when it comes to RoR's advanced stats, penalty differential is what pushes him into elite territory. You love to highlight that.

I wouldn't pay him $10m, nor would I give up more than Risto and a non-first round pick.

If they want Risto and a second, and he's cool with 2 years, $7.5 per, welcome to the team. If not, move on

Pretty much.

Like I said, if we drafted him it’s a different story of course you’d want to keep him and his goals and just shelter him.

He’s not good enough to give up a bunch of assets for and then to pay him like he’s Skinner or Eichel, cause he ain’t

We already got Jack his scoring winger

A huge liability defensively is exactly what Eichel doesn’t need

- sbroads24

Out of curiosity...
what exactly are u looking at that says Laine is a “huge liability defensively”?

I just wish Skinner had a bit more playmaking ability. At the end of the day 63 points is 63 points, whether you put a larger emphasis on goals over assists or not.

how many sabres got 40 goals in the last 10 seasons?
