Pretty much.

Like I said, if we drafted him it’s a different story of course you’d want to keep him and his goals and just shelter him.

He’s not good enough to give up a bunch of assets for and then to pay him like he’s Skinner or Eichel, cause he ain’t

- sbroads24

If they plan on giving Sam a long term deal, it's really hard to add another 8m+ long-term contract.

Definitely considering it’s one of what 5 things I listed?
- sbroads24

Just saying
U constantly bring that up even though it only amounts for a couple more goals over the course of a season

It’s defini not a measure worth the amount of time u talk about it imo

Skinner isn’t even good enough for what we are paying him. Take him away from Eichel and he reverts to a 25 goal, 50 point guy just like Anders Lee did this year once Tavares left. Laine could probably do the same thing that Skinner does on Eichel’s wing. To me they are two peas in a pod but Skinner never did what Laine has done in his first three years in the league. Laine is not a finished product, we have seen the best of Skinner.

It’s kinda alarming that while a player is supposed to be developing he’s trending in the wrong direction
- sbroads24

1 “off” season in which he still scores 30goals is NOT “trending”

36goals year 1
44goals year 2

He is an ELITE GOAL SCORER... period

And as of now Reinhart is the better player.

I don’t think Laine sucks or anything.

He’s obviously an elite goal scorer.

But the red flags are all over the place with him

Funny, when it comes to RoR's advanced stats, penalty differential is what pushes him into elite territory. You love to highlight that.
- Lunaion

I have NEVER ONCE highlited “penalty differential” when talking about ROR

Idk that it was me that ever even mentioned he didn’t take penalties?
Except maybe to use it to show he’s good defensively

But I’ve never used that stat at all to try & point out what you’re saying
Never once

There's no way of knowing yet if the 17% and 18% shooter from the first two years is the real Laine, or the 12% shooter from this year

No, as in all of his underlying numbers and EV shooting and goal scoring numbers have gotten worse from year 1-3. And defensively he’s gotten worse.

He scored some more PP goals in year 2, great.

He’s trending in the wrong direction

It’s not a “trend”
It’s ONE season that wasn’t “elite”

why does skinner have 20% better numbers in 5 on 5 goals per 60 over the last 3 years?

Special teams matter no ? Goals all count the same. I’d take Laine on his off wing, move Eichel to the strong side and we’d have a top 3 PP in the NHL

Can more than 1 player be an “elite” goal scorer?

Does there have to be a comparison to Skinner?

Can we not have 2 guys that are GREAT scorers?
Doesn’t have to be one or the other

That's not what I said. Analytics experts love RoR is one your favorite straw-man points. Penalty differential and faceoff % are what make him elite. The amount of value GAR credits for those is questionable, to put it mildly.

Sure
But the supposed decision probably has to be made now

So considering his talent, pedigree & first 2 years...
I think it’s fair to say (at this point) that season3 was the aberration

There were a lot who were,
and based on 1 down season

Frankly,
I’d rather trade for Ehlers bc of his contract

But there’s little doubt imo that Laine is an elite scorer in the league, and will continue to be so
