Waiting patiently for NYI's 4 1st's and the cap space...if you're looking for redemption for Tavares signing with the Leafs and the Islanders and their fans getting NOTHING in return, you'll have to wait 5 years and take your shot at Matthews...

I'd stop waiting so patiently too...NYI has had a pretty poopty offseason.

Jesus, it is so bad now he can't even spend more than 5 minutes making up new garbage.

KomiSally Rex probably feels tingly now and he doesn't understand what is happening.

My reading comprehension is just fine. Here is what you posted on the previous page. Copied and pasted.

"The Leafs can't pay Marner 11 million TODAY, They would have to make roster moves to fit under the cap with Horton's LTIR not eligible to be removed until after the season starts - They have to be cap compliant WITH Horton on the 1st day of the season"

Just as long as it doesn't conflict with his "Snakes and Ladders" time.

The lightning sneaking Hossa's jock into Callahan's stall is next level GMing, which means it is child's play to Bergy.

It's weird how it's only people with terrible contracts that seem to get all the random out of the blue career ending conditions.

Can someone explain why the 1 year offer sheet is dumb? I keep reading that nobody is giving up 4 first round picks for 1 year, but that wouldn't be the case. I'm just going to use random teams here for clarity purposes, and am not saying these teams have the space or would do this... For example, Calgary signs him to a 1 year, $15M deal and gives their 4 first round picks to Toronto. Calgary gets him for 1 year, and then can sign him for 8 more. Or Calgary gets him for 1 year, and then Florida signs him for 7 years as an RFA next summer. Calgary can match that 7 year offer or let him go and get Florida's 4 first round picks. The worst case scenario is that Calgary gets 1 year of him and recoups the 4 first round picks they lost. All of this assumes that he doesn't get injured this year and can still play next year.

The whole league is paralyzed while they wait to find out.

Maybe the Habs will trade Alzner and Suzuki for Laine. Although I am sure they would prefer to trade Danault and Alzner. I guess it is whatever Bergy wants.

How is there a guarantee that Florida would sign him to an offer sheet after one season?

Because RFA players have certain rights.

The most important (in this case) being qualifying offer rights.

If Calgary signs him for 1 year, $15 million, it means that they have to at least qualify him next year with an equivalent offer, or lose his rights.

So Marner could simply keep stringing Calgary along on 1-year, $15 million deals for the next four years, until he becomes an unrestricted free agent, for which they would receive no compensation. And hell yes, that's what his agent would tell him to do.

So if you are Calgary, are you willing to give up 4 1st round picks for 4 years of Mitch Marner, with a cap hit of $15 million each year, after which he walks?

He's not going to sign an 8-year deal next year at $11 per year. He's made that abundantly clear.

Okay so it's more of a cap space issue for the following three years. If they have the space, it's still 4 years of Marner for four first round picks, or 1 year of him and they get back their picks, or 9 years of him if he signs an 8 year deal. Either way, it's never just 1 year for 4 first round picks and everyone moves on, right?
