For those thinking that Neal will play with McDavid and resurrect his career they will sadly be mistaken. He couldn’t play on the flames first line because he was way to slow! So if he’s to slow for the flames first line what makes people think he will be able to keep up with McDavid.

I would agree that if one of them is going to bounce back it will likely be Neal. But if he doesn’t the oilers will be paying 6.35 for 4 years vs 5.4 for Lucic.

And rumour has it part of the details still be worked out is that Lucic might be scratching his NTC all together.

As far as I’m concerned this was a win for the flames. They needed to add some grit to the team and Lucic brings that.

Flames get a conditional 3rd round pick next year (not sure what the condition is). Flames also get 500k in Salary cap relief (Oilers are retaining 12.5% of Lucic's salary = 750k, but Neal's cap hit is 250K less). Flames also save 7 million in cash left owing between the two. Doesn't mean much but it helps...

Neal might do well in the Oil's top 6 and therefore it would appear the Oilers will win the trade, but Lucic will play bottom 6 in Calgary and play better defensively, and hit more, and protect/intimidate a bit. I'm ok with this trade. I assume he will waive his NMC in the expansion draft, as Seattle wouldn't select him anyways... which is what management will ask him to do when the time comes.

Edmonton wins. Neal had a bad year but was better at any point in his career. Luc is washed. Watch Neal do 30 again with McJesus
