No his contract doesn't change, his nmc goes with him which includes no buyout or being sent to the minors without his permission. Todd Cordell covered that in his blog about this trade. We are stuck with him. Unless the nhl does us a favor and blocks another one of our trades lol. 🤷‍♂️

I wouldn’t be surprised if Smith takes over starting duties at some point

But also Lucics NMC expires once the paperwork is done so the Flames can expose him for the draft too I think

Win for flames- Neal dragged everybody around him down, slow as (frank), cant hit, couldn't score. Complained he wasnt in the top 6, then he would get a shot and absolutely blow. Now we dont have to force feed him on the top lines. Lucic knows he will be on the bottom 6 and can at least fight and hit

Oilers retain 12.5% of Lucic contract and trade a conditional 3rd round pick in 2020.
So Flames have Lucic for cap hit of $5.25mill
Oilers have Neal + retention for $6.5mill.
