You are 100% correct. Try finding another team without one.

When people name "Auston Matthews" and "William Nylander" as your "Bad contracts" you are doing something right.

Look at any other "Contender". Most have terrible contracts with non core players.

Leafs being in "Cap Hell" argument is laughable.

Our ex GM just keeps littering his lineup with expensive late 20's supporting guys.

- RogerRoeper

I just can't wrap my head around that Ceci contract. Whenever we talk about matching offersheets, or even meeting Marner's demands, people mention trading Nylander.

Nylander was poop last year, but we all know the talent he has. You can't trade him now, at his lowest value.

Nylander's contract is not the problem, Ceci's is.

On another note...the conditions of the conditional pick regarding the Lucic/Neal trade is interesting...I hadn't read about it before.

Oh, and I wish Tyson's parents named him Barry, instead.

Ceci is signed for 1 year with hopes he turns his game around while giving the team a right handed dman. No issues with this whatsoever.

No new information
No discussion of how the Trouba contract might impact the asking price

Bang-up job

In Mike's defence, TSN hasn't written an article yet on the subject that he can plagiarize.

I see guys on another board saying Jones for Matthews. I get that top D are premium but come on, so are top 1Cs. Also Matthews is the youngest guy on the team. If possible I think Matthews' stock is underrated because injury supressed his totals. He can score fifty or sixty goals imo and everyone will stfu.

Not even close. Marner for Jones is more realistic.

A team can be taught how to play a sound defensive game. A team cannot be taught how to score. Draft and develop the Dmen. Dont trade young star elite offensive weapons. If the team isnt playing well defensively as a whole, you're delusional if you think Jones will come in and fix things on his own.

Adding Jones would win the Leafs a Cup.

I'm convinced that the MLSEL braintrust thinks Ceci can play. There is no other explanation.

Having said that, frontloading it would have given them more flexibility. I can't understand why they didn't structure it this way.

Neal is going to have a huge comeback year. This is a great trade by Edmonton.
Lucic is finished, Neal is not imo.

- RogerRoeper

Plus its less to buy out neal oer aav and neal doesnt have to be a protected player for seattle draft

Maybe the cash truck is getting a little on the empty side, we pay about 10 billion in bonus cash every June 1 or Sept 1 or whatever the (frank)ing date is.

I agree. That's just how valuable Matthews is, because Marner is amazing. Matthews ability to just take the puck and shoot it into the net sets him apart.
- Zezel

And that's why I female dog about Matthews' usage by Babcock.

A team can be taught D if its willing to learn and execute D strategies.

Yeah Matthews should be overplayed if anything. If you're going to lose, lose with your best players.

I agree about NYlander. All the numbers say he's very good and will be better. NEVER, ever trade an early 20's blue chipper when their value is at it's lowest

I get the concern over Ceci, but I did not include it because it's only 1 year and Leafs needed a RH shot bad. When I think "Bad Deals", it's always long-term ones.

He can average 3 more minutes a game and you could argue he's not being overplayed.

18 minutes in game 7. That's insanity by the coach.
