Why only include 5 on 5when PP is the easier way to get points?

Why go 5 on 5, we all know the Leafs get the least powerplay time, which affords Babcock to use him more 5 on 5.

Well, hopefully Babcock starts calling some penalties next year, you know Matthews is on the top PP for the Leafs right? 🤷🏻‍♂️

We can debate the wisdom of signing Tavares, or the Matthews contract or giving up a first to get away from the Marleau final year...

It find it interesting that the Leafs now have almost no horrible contracts. There *may* be slight overpayments but they are for young payers.

The only contract you could seriously question is Ceci. I still think that is a head-scratcher. Why not let him go to arbitration, let him walk away, sign Marner, and pick up a Dman off the scrap heap. At the very least sign him to bonus heavy contract to make a trade somewhat easier.

The only answer is that the Leafs appear to think Ceci offers real value at 4.5. I have no idea what they are basing that on. By anything I have seen he is no better than the September dumpster dive-ees.

So Dubas gets full marks for fixing an enormous problem. It looks like he was just one big question mark away from pretty much a perfect off-season

so far.

I tend to agree here, but I can see why he did it - they're basically banking on the fact that Ceci isn't actually as horrible as he seems. And given that he played with Phaneuf (lol), Borowiecki (double lol) and other Junior-B quality players in Ottawa, he'll have by far the best D-partner of his life in either Muzzin or Rielly. He'll at least have a chance to show whether he can cut it at this level with an actual NHL D-man at his side, especially as he'll not be playing like 23 mins a night anymore.

I don't hold much hope on him being better than Z in all truth, but if that is indeed the case they can just be done with him at the end of the year

Babs did have a 3rd line C that scored 30 a couple times and J.T., not too many guys getting more ice then Matthews compete with those kind of teammates JMO

We don’t need him on the PK, he plays 1st line PP and we get less penalties then most teams in the league, not sure why this is so hard for you.

If you include D he's outside the top 200.

This is the guy who's been the best goal scorer since the second he entered the NHL 5 on 5.

People think the Leafs lack toughness? They lack a coach with half a brain.

Nobody ever complains that Snake should've gotten more ice time, which is odd because at this moment in time he is still arguably better than Matthews.

Because PP and Overtime tend to inflate numbers based on situations an individual player can't control.

29th 5v5, you’re not very good at this.

I’ll just start making poop up.

Leafs won the cup last year and it was all Babcocks coaching woooohooo, we finally won the Stanley Cup 🥰🥰🥰

So you feel his lack of PP time is a good idea? Taking that 1st unit PP off the ice after 40 seconds because he is obsessed with line-matching is smart?

So the best 5 on 5 producer is 29th and that's good? And he should be playing more PP< which is why he's outisde the top 80 overall.

I doubt he’s line matching on the PP, but whatever helps you sleep.

We’ve had 2 pretty good reg seasons in a row, playoffs we came up short...not sure it’s due to Matthews not getting PP time but sure, I’ll give you that.

Matthews gets minutes in line with other top centres on deep teams. The Leafs lost because the playoffs are hard, not because they didn't do what fans would've done.

Kadri gone. Less center depth should mean more time for Mathews.

One can hope at least.

That's what I think is likely and am hoping for. You can't have him at 11.6 cap hit now and dominated per 60 more than any NHL player and have him at 18 minutes. It's (frank)ing stupid.

Deep teams spread the wealth (ice time). This isn't a revelation.

No Kadri this coming season will in and of itself give Matthews more ice time. And if the refs would actually give one of the fastest and most skilled teams in the league a (frank)ing power play, that's another boost.
