For all this talk about Risto, Trouba, RNH, Ehlers, Laine, etc., no one's mentioned goaltending. Are we really serious about a playoff push with Ullmark and Hutton? These guys are stop gaps, unless something very unexpected happens. Like so many other decisions, he's just patiently waiting and evaluating.

Hutton / Ullmark stats will improvement tremendously if our defense improves. By no mean do I think either goalies are all stars but our defense and defense zone coverage was abysmal. Improve that and the goalies look and play better statistically

Laine had more gp, goals and points and playoff points than Eichel did his first three years in the league.

Eichel got 10 mil based on potential. Laine should ask for 9.

Of course it's an issue. Hutton/Ullmark is a below average duo and UPL is an unknown right now. My main point was that this isn't your duo if you're really pushing hard for the playoffs. It's stalling and getting a look at UPL's first pro year.

Eichel's also a highly marketable face of the franchise, easily worth more than 10m economically to the organization. I don't think you could say the same about Laine. Maybe WPG feels differently.

It's goaltending. It's very hard to predict. Do you like the odds of either putting up top 10 numbers? I didn't see that type of ability from either of them. For all the talk of the D letting them down, they gave up a lot of duds too. If your job was on the line this year, I think you'd make a move.
