It's goaltending. It's very hard to predict. Do you like the odds of either putting up top 10 numbers? I didn't see that type of ability from either of them. For all the talk of the D letting them down, they gave up a lot of duds too. If your job was on the line this year, I think you'd make a move. - Lunaion
During the 10 game win streak it was Hutton that was the reason they won most of them
They don't need to put up top 10 numbers
They need to be above average

Ehlers was playing fortnite during the playoffs
So I solved that mystery - gerbe75pts
Him and your bf laine are pros! They should fit in perfect with mitts and dahlin |

He had a nice run, followed by extended below average play. I don't see a lot of upside there. Average is fine, but if you really want to make the playoffs, they need better than that.
I think if you objectively rank goaltending going into the season, we're near the bottom. We're hoping to get average play out of two backups.

Hutton ranked 19th in sv% among goalies who played at least 45 games (admittedly 45 is an arbitrary number, but it gives a benchline for a starting goalie, i.e., over half of the games played). Neither he nor Ullmark will be a reason we don't make the playoffs imo

He was so hot & cold though
A little more consistency would be nice
And Ullmark should improve a bit I’d think
He was just a rookie last year
Both guys were pretty mediocre in the 2nd half last year though
Can’t hve a repeat of that or we are screwed |

19th of 26? and they lost 0 starts to injury
I don't see it the same way. It's going to take much better than expected goaltending to push this group into playoff contention. It was a weakness of the team last year, and should continue to be this year.

Laine. Can’t maintain this level he is not good he has horrible underlying numbers.
His play is not sustainable.
Ehlers. Luck sucks sometimes so we can ignore his horrifying stats.
Do I have this right? |

I want to be a cup contender. Now yes I understand you need to make the playoffs to have a chance at the cup, but I think there is a distinct difference between a playoff team and cup contender. Botts inherited Eichel, but put the team in position to secure Dahlin, Mitts, Cozens, UPL and traded for Montour, Miller, Skinner. We will have the two most important pieces to a cup contender in 1C and 1D for the next decade and have a boat ton of cap space come July 1st 2020. I’m very happy to be here.
I’ll take Cozens over the first round playoff exit we would of had. - Swedish_Jesus

You forgot when our sabres don't score they suck
When others don't score it's bad puck luck
And if they don't like it they can leave

The rest of us.... we knew it was a terrible d pairing and it didn’t work |

He never got either in a rhythm.
I will never forget when he went with Hutton the next game after Ullmark had a great performance in a 1-0 loss because "he didn't win."

Buddy, just quote my posts. It’s obvious who you’re responding to.
Laine is a fantastic goal scorer. Always will be. Never once said otherwise
The problem is/will be cost to acquire + adding another big contract on a legitimate one trick pony.
If you really believe Ehlers just can’t score in the postseason and it will continue his whole career you should just look at all the players who’s narrative that’s been about, and how they always end up breaking through at some point.
Ehlers had 16 shots in 6 games. I’m sure at that pace he will never score, ever
