If the team offers 2 years, they CAN "walk away", but not entirely. The player must play for the arb award for one year, then the player can declare himself a UFA.

Botterill technically has an extra 90 seconds because he only offered 1 year.

That's an interesting reading of the rule (and a source I've used before), enough that I checked the actual CBA. In the case of a 2 year award, the figure is $4,397,832 per year (not total). They have no walk away rights here.
