Despite the fact I'd rather go swimming in a port-a-potty then see either of those players sign with the teams they did, I think they're both pretty close in terms of talent and there was zero "overpayment" for either.

People can argue and nitpick over semantics and subjective fan-assessments of their "true value" but at the end of the day market-price is market price and that's what they were worth.

Brukie:

You have been bad mouthing Panarin signing since you we got him and have never mentioned once he’s a great player, do you realize this player is a top 10-15 player in the sport?

Get on board, or get off the train...it’s as simple as that

This team is loaded and is going to dominate in a couple of seasons

You are a typical child, I dont agree with you so you throw a tantrum and want me to leave.

You are a very narrow minded person along with a few other posters on this board. The points I make are legit. Your statements of how great this team will be and how we will dominate is nothing but hot air! You are HOPING all these players we have drafted and acquired pan out. Nothing is guaranteed. All of these players you say will dominate and are so awesome have yet to play a minute of NHL hockey. I remember Hugh Jessiman. Do you???

Panarin is a good player, not great, Im sorry but I disagree with you. He has finished 17th, 20th 11th and 9th in scoring the last 4 yrs. The 9th and 11th he was playing with Patrick Kane. He is now getting paid like a great player at 11.6 mill and at 28yo when the season starts, on the wrong side of the age bar for this team.

Now the Rangers who had bad contracts to begin with are in cap hell. Posters who want to sell off assets at pennies on the dollar I guess dont get it. I see posts at trading guys for 5th round picks. Do you not think teams would die for these players if all we wanted was a 5th round pick?? 5th round picks that make the NHL is at like 8 percent. Id take Names or Fast or Strome for a 5th round pick any day. Gorton Im sure has had offers but he isnt moving these players for nothing. Im sure Gorton is exploring all routes and is hoping something materializes. Asie to signing Pabarin, I think he has done a good job with restocking the franchise. Hopefully it will pay off.

Im a Ranger fa, will always be but Im a realist. Sorry to disappoint you!!

I think you're underselling Panarin by a lot. I do agree with the first paragraph about not putting too much stock in prospects to pan out to their full potential, but Panarin is a bonafide star player.

By possibly trading away a lower end asset (3rd -4rd pick) to dump salary we get panarin. Would you have made that trade w another team? You bet your ass-et you would.

You will have to trade a roster player to gain cap space not a pick.

Trading Nam, Strome would not be an asset. I agree with you if it was Buch or even Kreider since we could not replace that talent level in a trade

Well yes I do. Trading a pick doesnt gain you cap space.

The league has a salary cap now. Its not just Panarin its his cap hit too!! If this was 1997 it would be great, buts its not. Getting cap compliant, we will have to have some buy outs and or trades which no matter what deplete our roster.

Everyone was high on Pionk but he faltered badly last year and he was 22, will any of our other prospects do better in their first season?? We might need a Smith, Shatty or Ugh Staal.

What's the point of prospects unless you give them a chance to prove themselves. Gotta give them a chance to swim in the deep end before you write them off as potential busts.

No way Vin! No one is trading for Shattenkirk. (Unless that's not who you were talking about)

Btw man you were missing (Granted I know I have been as well for many years!) Some people were wondering if that bagel guy in Strong Island was you, and I let the people know you're more attractive than that dude.

Heard about the 2019 Irishman film I'm sure right?

Scorsese, DeNiro, Pacino, Keitel, Pesci... Talk about 30 years late.

No doubt, and that is pretty much the only thing to talk about at this point. I am kind of not worried about this at all. I am pretty confident that it will work out.

Yeah I just wonder, if it is that easy why hasn't it happened yet? Has to be something going on. Namestnikov + 4th to some team for a 5th?

If we buyout Smith and Trade Nam + a 4th for a 5th lets say. That gets us cap compliant.

Lose:
Smith
Nam
4th

Add:
Panarin
5th

How is that bad asset management? We got Panarin by giving up no assets. Shedding some assets to clear space for him is not depleting our roster, it's upgrading.
