I certainly won't be the one on here to defend Pionk. It's still somewhat of a mystery as to why we even bothered to get him. He was decent enough in 17-18 but last season he went from mediocre to horrible. He gets the occasional highlight-reel goal from his offensive abilities and speed but his defence is very sub-par. One must remember though that the Rangers had about the worst defense in the league. Maybe a guy like Morrissey can help him ...at least let's hope so.

Sissons signed for 7 years at 2.86m cap hit. Sissons outperformed Copp marginally across the board in everything from games played to minutes to points, shooting percentage, giveaways and takeaways. Copp led in fo% and a marginally better points/60. By the stats the edge goes to Sissons when compared with Copp.

That said if the Jets could lock up Copp for 7 years for a similar cap hit lets do it. Short term around 2m.

But Copp has a massive edge in being a better human being

Is... is this about Austin Watson? Or have I missed a Sissons story?

I agree with this. In my opinion he’s Carlo Colaiacovo Lite.

I am hoping his skating and puck moving develop into something more like Matt Benning. The Jets have more mature play structure than rangers and hopefully provides something more predictable for him to develop his defensive play with.

Two years at 2.28 for Copp. Glad to have him back!

Can't complain about this one. Chevy might have saved 300-500K per year . I also like the fact that Kurt Overcharge lost this one.

Kurt is a hack. Fights for his clients yes but he has a horrible reputation throughout the nhl and my understanding is that he acts in bad faith because he believes it benefits his clients. Fair enough, but after awhile nhl general managers talk and this guy will be black listed along with his clients (if they haven’t already). Kyle turris, case and point.

Heckuva cap crunch going on. Any chance Connor could get moved if the obvious players cannot be? Price?

Little or no chance! Would you move Pettersson, one of or your best players? Not likely.

Only way Connor is moving elsewhere is through an offer sheet that is so high that the Jets would walk. Zero chance they trade him.

Petterson is twice the player. Bad example.

A couple points about Poink.
Last year was his first real season in the NHL. He admitted he hit the wall most every college player does. He started the year great and regressed around Christmas.
The other point is he sucked when he came back from injury. The month of March he was a minus 8. He was only a minus 8 during the first 5 months of the year causing him to be minus 16 for the year. A minus 8 for 70% of the NHL season on the Rangers is not so bad. I would like to know how much the awful month of March affected all of his advanced stats. I think he plays better in a Jets uniform and at worse plays at a Tyler Myers replacement level which for 3 Million per is an upgrade.

Which player would you suggest the comparison be between - one of your favorites, Matt Hendricks and Pettersson?

Honestly, Connor probably marks the exact center between Hendricks and Petterson. Connor has flash and finish, but Petterson has both AND everything else on top.

Agreed. Hendricks is a terrible comparison.

Quite frankly I see a lot of David Pastrnak in Kyle Connor. Connor is about a year younger but has a lot of the same skills, quickness in the corners, speed, shot, and hands as Pastrnak. While Pastrnak has the upper hand right now and is still getting better, I believe Connor will be a similar talent as he progresses.

Pastrnak is locked down with a Sheifele type salary. If Chevy could lock down Connor for similar numbers under $7MM for 5-7 years I'd be elated.

Man, you hit the nail right on the head.

What people don't see when they watch Connor is something I don't get. Or at least I'm assuming they watch.

Perhaps, probably, the the leading scorer on the Jets this year or next. $7 mill for eight years, go for it. The Plodder? Less!

Hendricks wasn’t a comparison. He was a point on the spectrum.

Connor is a year younger than Pastrnak, which means if you’re expecting Connor to be that level of player, he has to have an absolutely monstrous year of development. Like, the type of season you almost never see

Hendricks was way off the spectrum. Perhaps Tanev or Copp may have been better examples.
