If Clarkson is retired (as I read on this website), shouldn't there be a recapture penalty? - powerenforcer

Hasn't retired. Just can't play anymore. Same as Horton. In very very basic terms, the Leafs can go about 10.5 mil over the cap - walshyleafsfan

I wonder if Saad could play center, and just let Smith take the draws. - walleyeb1
Unlikely, he’s been a winger in his NHL career. |

the nhl is really a joke when you can trade cap dollars and not for players who will play... |

Yep, if the NHL really wants to commit to this salary cap they need to plug the loopholes in the next CBA. |

There always will be loopholes. The league just needs to eliminate the need for teams to find them. |

Start here-No hard cap, luxury taxes that escalate based on how much over cap you go, and multiply each year you are over (monies distributed to small market teams). Teams can go over cap to re-sign own players but not re-sign free agents not on their team. |

Under. I think they'll be around 67 points, Stan and JC will be fired by Christmas. - DarthKane
In defense
.....the defense is better for sure
Yet even a somewhat surprising great season from Gus
Plus a solid campaign from Murphy
Nonetheless the defense corps kind of sucks
Just not all too good
Slow a couple of them
Clearly a set of defensemen some one last season then gone
Colliton system helps....yeah, sure
And goaltending may prove superb
Still this is not a good crew, overall, on back end
Go ahead and compare them to playoff deense groups in our division, our Conference.
Cough. Not too good although not really sucks. Just not good enough might be fairest proclamation
Maybe they fall shirt in the very end. But if bolster the defense somehow maybe we have post season
Whence instead of "Here Come the.Hawks" it becomes "there go the hawks."
Just my 2. Cents
Do you have "a defense?" |

My head hurts enough with the penalties. God I hope you are not serious. Penalties are a coaching issue it wasn't an accident the Hawks led the league in least penalties under Q. Penalties are on Colliton as much as the players. - rpeters01
Maybe.
Shaw has always taken his fair share of meatheaded penalties, even under Q. The great warrior of meaningless stats Zach Smith also has a history of taking ill-advised minor penalties. Add these two to a team with a poopty PK, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be concerned.
If your head hurts, might want to try pulling your head out of your ass, see if that helps. |

What he fails to understand is the team was largely composed of lavender sniffing pirouetting ballerinas under Q.

Our power play always sucked under Q with all their talent. No net presence, Keith couldn't skate into the other team's zone with a GPS. Improve the power play and it's at least a net wash.

In all fairness DeBrincat hasn't shown much progression in the important stats.
- faceoffs remain < 50%
- hits per game ~ 0.5
- blocked shots per game ~ 0.3
- SH TOI < 10 seconds
- +/- went from +6 to 0
- zero improvement in shoot-outs
If Stan had any intelligence (which he doesn't) he'd sell on DeBrincat ASAP. He might be able to recoup the 2021 third round pick he gave up in the Shaw trade. - DarthKane
Add to that ADB doesn't fight. ADB for a bag of pucks, a roll of tape and a used jockstrap. |

You win with defense, PERIOD, END OF STORY! Yes under Q the power play was so so or down right unproductive but the Blackhawks win the 2013 and 2015 Championships with poor powerplays but good penalty killing and exceptional defense and goaltending. Don't get me wrong I'd like to see a strong powerplay too but the two areas that are far more important for the Hawks to fix are their defensive game and their penalty killing. |

My "source" tells me Blowman has invested in diffusers for the whole team and for the dressing room, their team jet and each players hotel room. |

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this year's PK will be vastly better than last year's.
They will from worst NHL PK in the last 30 years last year to top half of the league this year. |
