I can’t see any downside for the Oilers, but there are some people who claim that there is.

I don’t know how. We don’t have to watch Lucic slowly lumber around the ice anymore. We aren’t hampered with his untradeable, unbuyoutable contract anymore. We don’t have to protect him in the expansion draft and lose more talent from our lineup.
It would be nice for Neal to have a rebound year, but if not, who cares? We buy him out next offseason.
I have always been a huge Lucic fan, but he’s terrible now and his contract is even worse than his play. He was supposedly training hard and dropping weight last offseason to gain foot speed and that never translated to on ice performance at all.
The Calgary fans that think this is a good trade for them are the same ones that think Jenny Hockey is better than Taylor Hall.
