If you like Italian, there's this little restaurant called East Side Mario's - really, really good stuff.

It helped me get over the fact that there are no Olive Gardens in Toronto anymore.

- Atomic Wedgie

We have those in Montreal too. Few left but overall yeah pretty good.

I like the cold. The frozen canal (I used to skate on it a lot - lived in the Glebe) Ottawa is very festive, and the people are more laid back.. the Ottawa River is a national Gem, Gatineau Park is right there.. I just love that town, it’s so quintessentially Canadian.
- Arctic_AARDVARK

I love Ottawa in the dead of winter and the middle of summer.

The shoulder seasons? Not so much.

But skating on the canal is soooooo franking awesome.

Jesus, Scabby - really?

It's no fun to mock you if you are just going to go along with it.

East Side Mario's is franking putrid. Not to mention there isn't a single item on the menu that checks in at less than 2,000 calories.

I take Toronto over Ottawa
- TheMussel

A friend of mine moved there. He’s moving back next month

He said it’s boring as (frank) and everyone are boring government people who are stuck up.

I’ve never been to Ottawa. His words

I should mention he did like it at first. It got stale 6 months into it though.

Twitter is everything I hate about technology - it gives people the false belief that just because they have the ability to broadcast something to a wide audience, it automatically makes what they are saying valid/insightful/important.

Stupid people should really keep their stupid thoughts to themselves.

- Atomic Wedgie

I don’t disagree..

Trust me, at first I tried to be normal, but you can’t say anything without the sjw’s (16yr olds) finding something to complain about. I really think it’ll either burn out, or complete ruin society. People are treating it like an important, or even noble way to spend time. But it’s nothing but an addiction, or at least a means to “scratch the itch.”

Since food in TO has come up, I just went to a little Philipino hole in the wall called Tinuno, off Sherbourne and Bloor.

They do a Kamayan feast, which is a communal meal. There are sheets of banana leaves on the table onto which they layer a long bed of garlic rice and on top they arrange a metric (frank)load of grilled whole fish, pork, pork belly, shrimp, mussels, squid, eggplant and okra. Everyone puts on gloves and digs in with their hands.

Fifteen bucks a person and they offered us more rice, but by that time we were stuffed. It is fantastic. Make a reso. Don't think about it just go. This is now one of three or four places in the city I will recommend.

Twitter/Facebook etc. will be the end of the world. I love not being on any platform other than HB these days. It's amazing. People talk to me about how stressful just living with social media is.
- AdamFrench

Microsoft is quietly taking over social media information. They found they had a problem following up with people that moved from one company to another - so they bought Linked-In. I also dislike and do not participate in most forms of social media.

You've seriously never been to Ottawa? Are in in Toronto?

Just seems weird you've never been there - not a school trip or family trip or at least to skate on the canal one time.

It's a good place to visit - the museums are pretty good (the War Museum is excellent), the hotels are pretty cheap, and the canal is pretty in the summer, great to skate on in the winter.

Edit: I should have said it's a great place to visit.

Speaking of cities.

Has anyone driven to Nashville? Any cities worth stopping by on the way or just tough the 12 hours out?

I like Ottawa. Beer runs to Lansdowne skating on the canal in the winter. There's some nice places to eat and have a beer. Close to the Gatineau hills.

I just like Toronto better, now that I can actually afford to live here.

True.

But in the shoulder seasons, there’s TONS of shawarma places to check out

Don’t get me wrong I’ve heard of the good things about visiting.

I’ve driven through it and stopped at parliament. But I’ve never stayed a night.

I lived 500m from Landsdowne. I used to frequent Irene’s Pub on Bank.

Anyone saying Ottawa sucks (unless they’re talking about the Sens) probably haven’t been there. There’s not much to complain about with that city.. And if you’ve never done a Canada day in the Capital, you’re missing out.

I want to visit east coast sooner or later...I’ll have to make a stop in Ottawa.

But I agree, I’ve been to quite a few cities and Toronto is up there for me.

Canada has some fantastic cities.

What way are you heading? Direct? If you hug the East Coast, I'd hit up some of those coastal cities and South Carolina.

I was planning on going direct.

I’ve considered going off the route a bit and hitting up Chicago first. I’ve never been there a and I’ve always wanted to go to a baseball game there.

We did Cleveland and Columbus just after Christmas last year (Leafs beat the Blue Jackets - booo-yeah!).

After hearing Cleveland jokes for so long, my expectations were very, very low. It was actually not a bad little place - but absolutely empty.

Columbus around the arena was fun - they have a nice little restaurant district vibe going on. But I can't really imagine spending more than a night there.

People just need to chill on saying places suck. Every place has redeeming qualities that work for someone (Except Buffalo). The whole city rivalry idea is silly.
