and they have no elite roster players to show for it, other than Mark Stone (I think he's elite, I know some people don't).
the leafs are going to have cap problems, but at least they have guys like Matthews, Tavares, Marner, etc...........Vegas is going to be (frank)ED for years. - sensarmy_11
Vegas has some pretty good players, not just Stone. IMO |

We traded some good pieces for Muzzin and supposedly he’s “old and slow” and won’t be resigned. ( I too think he’s on the slow side but gets the job done, Hainsey like ) |

I would like to announce I dislike the Leafs more than any other team in pro sports except the Rangers and Red Sox. This is not a JT thing, I just genuinely hate the Leafs!

from most articles I read, it seemed that zaitsev had a drop in his play when Babcock tried to use him as a shutdown guy.
maybe he sucks, maybe he was misused, maybe it was both.......I'm hoping a change of scenery will change that. maybe less media scrutiny and pressure helps him.
maybe the same will happen with Ceci....although he'll be even more under the microscope in Tor than he was in Ott - sensarmy_11
This is true, he was played as more of an offensive defenceman early in his Leaf tenure, did well with 36 points and was rewarded with his current contract, he was then forced to play a more defensive game and his point total, and effectiveness dropped off. I suspect this is why he requested a trade out of town. |

oh, good players for sure, but nobody elite.
like I said, I used the leafs players as examples. Mark Stone is the only player who I think could be grouped in with the "big 4" in Toronto, and be considered the same calibre player
for a team to be in such cap hell, I would expect they'd have a few players in of "Matthews, Tavares, marner" calibre, but they don't. they're just paying a poop load of money to guys like pacioretty, fleury, smith, statsny.....good players, but not great |

Top Secret (with Val Kilmer) is by far, hands down, case closed, the best worst movie of all time.....and if you've never seen it, do yourself a favour and find it like right now. |

how can you say that a player who has been statistically the WORST d-man in the league for like 3 years in a row, is 100% better than ANYONE.
and I'm not just ragging on the guy cuz he plays for the leafs now, in fact nothing makes me happier............I poop on him ALL THE TIME when he was with us. - sensarmy_11
He certainly has a (frank) of a lot to prove this year. Thank goodness we only have that contract for a year, although even that one year hurts.

I don't want to speculate too much, but there were a few hints that Zaitsev's request for a trade may have also been linked to off-ice reasons. |

I'm gonna repost this:
My brother likes to make this "OK, I've had three beers - let's argue this" proposal:
Eliminate the draft.
Eliminate any restrictions on player movement (i.e., teams do not retain any rights after a contract has ended).
Keep the salary cap.
See what happens.
I have to admit, it's a pretty compelling argument.
Top draft picks would start making big salaries right off the bat, which would really throw team salary structures out of whack. Do you give a guy a 5 year contract? Only 3? 11?
Every July 1st would be the biggest poop show imaginable.
But at the end of the day, you would probably still have a good amount of parity. Teams like the Rangers and the Leafs would be top heavy, but you could probably build a strong team with a bunch of guys making moderate salaries. - Atomic Wedgie
At what age can teams sign players? Smells like soccer but with a salary cap. |

I took my son. It was alright. I didnt mind watching it. Or paying 40 bucks after it was done to buy the boy Woody and Buzz action figures. I want to find the Duke Caboom toy. He made the movie good and hilarious. (Keanu reeves) |

18 - same as now.
The retention of the salary cap is key - otherwise, Toronto and the Rangers have $300 million payrolls.

Have you ever been to McSorley's Tavern in New York?
They have a "cheese plate."
Some sliced onions, some sliced American cheese, and a sleeve of soda crackers - they even leave it in the sleeve.
I respect a bar that serves food with less effort than what I make for myself when I'm hungover.
