Because he isnt likely to stay a depth player. He is a 25 year old who hit 30 points last year as a depth player. This is how young players make a name for themselves. Not every guy starts off like a Tavares or a Panarin. Claude Giroux only had 27 points in his 2nd NHL Season
This is a great deal for Nashville because he is a player they expect to step up and when he does, he will be a steal at his contract price.

uhhh..... unless you count the 2 games he played at the end of the year after his QMJHL team was eliminated, the prior season, that was his first season you're referring to. Oh and he was 20 years old. oh and it was in 42 games.
