I also like the fact the new additions all came from winning team / environment. Hoping it changes and elevates other guys too.
JTM, Myers, Ferglund all made playoffs and were on exciting fun teams. That attitude will hopefully spread. - canucksfan1944
Yeah, i think based on the jump with made last year with the addition of Pettersson, we have the chance to improve by even more this year with a revamped D corps and more forward depth |

Jones isn't a good starter and their defense is in shambles. Burns and Karlsson are more interested in playing in the other end, Vlasic has declined, they traded Braun. Dillon is slow.
And who's their leader? They lost Pavelski and Thornton shamefully was stripped of his "C" before then. - Nucker101
I'd expect Couture gets named captain this year no? |

I said for a long, long time now: Canucks in 2019-20 are a bubble team. A lot of them making it is going to be luck(injury and puck), i think this year they just miss but we finish very close. First year in many where we have meaningful games in march |

Increased parity is baked into their 'regression to the mean' modelling philosophy but I wouldn't say it is necessarily a reflection of what to expect next season. There are always external disturbances that increase the variance beyond these conservative predictions.
Making high variance predictions is seen as over-fitting and likely to increase prediction error. For example, if Tampa slightly improved their roster on paper over last season the model would still likely predict a lower number of projected points (at least until they repeated last years success in multiple recent seasons). Essentially indicating that part of Tampa's success last season was due to some favorable outcomes of stochastic factors such as randomness/disturbances/luck... etc.

I think baring a EP,BB,BH extended injury they make it.
Our worst 2 D are out. And we have 3 substantially better, with QH being a potential big improvement.
We also upgraded the top 6 with size and speed and skill. Which pushes guys down that should be. Our forwards out vs. in are so much better.
96 points and we get in. It helps the pacific sucks.

The teams had quite a drastic change, it's going to take awhile for these guys to gel, if they do at all.
Add in the injuries the team uses as an excuse each year, they have their work cut out.
I won't bring the pom poms out just yet. |

Pavelski went on John Scott's podcast on July 1 and was pretty candid, since they're friends and used to be teammates.
Asked if Couture would be the next captain, he kinda said "Ehhhh...." Suggested maybe Burns, if I remember correctly.
I think it'd be wildly entertaining if either Jumbo or Marleau comes back and gets the C again after having it stripped earlier in his career. |

I'll also predict a 3rd place finish being Vegas and Calgary.
Sharks are old and the rest of the division is not a threat. - Nucker101
Can see CGY finishing first again and VGK a close 2nd. EDM at 3rd then maybe SJ at 4th or the WC. Or maybe EDM and SJ swapping.
I see Van at 90 pts just missing the PO's but much improved to the 17-20 slot.

True it's too early to tell if there will be chemistry on the roster with all the changes.
Injuries are huge. Expect Edler-Tanev-Baertchi to be out within the first month or two then it's step up time for the rest. Boeser and Petey need to have a full healthy year. |

ManVanFan - Hard to gauge the impact of Pavelski leaving SJ
Pavelski had 38 goals for SJ last year. That will be nearly impossible to replace. Thornton is another year older and slower and once Karlsson is injured again, they're going to struggle. Goaltending was also a problem for them last year and they didn't make any changes there. - YeOldTimer
Like replacing the Sedins 100 points? |

How many more injuries can this team really have? - manvanfan
Tanev, Edler, Sutter, Baertschi, Beagle, Boeser.
They don’t need to have more injuries, just about the same amount. |

Ben Hutton is now 2nd overall right after Jake Gardiner on TSN's list of Top Remaining UFA's.
And to think the Canucks just let him go for nothing.

I agree. They do have an underrated prospect pool though. Roy and chmelevski both look very good and could step in this year. Lebanc and meier look great. They’ve been deep for years, one guy even a big piece isn’t going to sink them. |
