They always had the 10.5 is that difficult to understand? - bobbyisno1
You guys are saying the same thing just arguing semantics. |

The leafs are allowed to go over the cap by the amount of ltir they have. Horton and Clarkson are still on the cap but the leafs are allowed to spend over the cap by how much their cap hit is. So leafs can go over the cap by the amount of their contracts but their contracts eat up that cap space so it's basically like they're not on the team. No benefit beyond that. - HealthyScratch6
Tell these other people, I get how it works, LTiR =no cap hit still have the cap space they had in the first place.
And they always had the 10.5 to sign Marner.
Just don't know what they are thinking. |

Leafs paid 200k of Clarkson's contract to get rid of sparks because no one wanted him. Also grabbed a 4th. Simple as that. |

I didn't back read very far but it sounds like youre saying their cap hit gets wiped out and the other guys are saying they can go over the cap. Either way it means the same thing just semantics. This move didn't benefit the leafs beyond the cap space they saved from sparks contract. |

Exactly what I was saying, payroll went up but you still can't exceed the cap. |

Everyone's talking Marner, but I wonder if this gives them some room to sign Gardiner for a short-term deal. Saw some rumblings about how he's waiting on term, but may sign a "show-me" deal with the Leafs for 1-2 years.

Is there penalty’s or cap implications with LTIR? |

When Dermott comes back, that’s a top 10 defence.

In actuality cap space did go up I think. tmThis move was actually needed because they couldn't have signed Marner without it (unless a different move was made).
They weren't close enough to the cap ceiling to fully realise the benefits or putting Horton on the LTIR |

For those who like to jerk it to draft picks the Leafs have 12 picks next draft. |

In other words Marner just lost some leverage. |

I thought I read a year or 2 ago, that by not putting Horton on LTIR it didn’t cost us the next year ( as in penalty or tax or something ) |

If marner signs before the season, they'd be fine.
Insurance move if he doesn't. They can get 10.5m of LTIR if Marner isn't signed prior to the season.
