I was curious why Barrie couldn't wear 4 so I went to the sweater register at the Leafs page at hockey-reference and saw that 4 is an 'honored number' (spelled like that at HR, surely the Leafs have the 'u' in there). What's the difference between and honored number and a retired number?
As an aside, the two guys who have seats directly behind mine in section 318 at the Pepsi Center (an older man and his middle aged son) hated Barrie. Yelled "get off the ice" every time he came on and "trade him" every time he went off. "Thanks a lot Barrie" every time a puck got past him at the point or he made any real or imagined mistake. They refused to ever even cheer for a goal he scored (and he scored some important ones). They weren't the only ones. I liked Barrie because I accepted the compromise he represented but a lot of fans never did. He's probably the most polarizing guy ever to play for the Avs. I wonder if the ACC will have a its share of these guys? Probably the same ones who hated Gardiner. Now that Alexander Kerfoot, who played 4 minutes of PK last season, has morphed into David Pastrnak, he can hopefully hopefully cover for some of Barrie's defensive lapses... |

Quote where I said it's a bad move.
You're the one jumping up and down like Dubas made the deal of the century.
They dumped a poop goalie to clear a tiny bit of cap space (that they filled by re-signing him in the first place) and got a 4th round pick.
It's a borderline nothing move and they added a bunch of LTIR money for a marginal benefit. |

I don't need to do research to know that if the Leafs make a move, you automatically think it's amazing and awesome. |

Leafs don't do/have Honoured numbers anymore. They're all retired now. |
