But as of now, they are 734k over the cap. Which should mean 10.55M minus 734k is available = 9.816M - 21peter
You forgot to factor in that Tyson Barrie wants to wear #4. |

Drop either Harper (725k) or Marincin (700k) to the minors. |

Quote where I said it's a bad move.
You're the one jumping up and down like Dubas made the deal of the century.
They dumped a poop goalie to clear a tiny bit of cap space (that they filled by re-signing him in the first place) and got a 4th round pick.
It's a borderline nothing move and they added a bunch of LTIR money for a marginal benefit. - JohnFergusonJr
You kick and scream when the Leafs deal away 4th round picks for actual players.
Now they essentially buy one and you are on here like the grump you are trying to tell people it is a nothing move.
It is a hockey site and the Leafs made a move where they got a 4th round pick for nothing as far as a fans concerned. Let people be happy ffs. We all can tell you are never happy so stop raining on others. |

Key takeaway from the Clarkson trade: Leafs increase their flexibility, most crucially on the Marner front. Now, if he’s not signed by Oct. 1 they won’t have to trade anyone to accommodate a larger, pro-rated year one cap hit. Extra LTI room allows them to keep the team together. |

Vegas appreciates the help, but could the Leafs have at least taken Reaves too, so we could sign Gusev?
Come on guys! |

Leafs have enough cap space for Marner and that's it, Clarkson changes nothing, his cap hit goes on the books and when he's put on LTIR the Leafs will go back to the 10.5 they already had. |

No extra, not how it works all they did was pay a mill for a 4th round pick. |

I’m just messing around but it does seem a little odd gardiner hasn’t signed yet.
Who know maybe marner takes a short term deal bringing the dollar amount down. |

Apparently it allows them to sign Marner later in the season as well.
Fans don't know poop about the cap...It is why the Leafs pay millions to guys who do. |

By doing the deal it allows them to reach the the floor without Marner before using ltir
That’s important. Allows them more flexibility. |

Siegel is wrong anyway, they have to use part of the cap space they have for Clarkson, when they put him on LTIR they just gain the space back. |

That is the simplified version.
There is a lot we don't know about how the salary cap works. |
