That is the simplified version.
There is a lot we don't know about how the salary cap works. - Santo_44
And this is where having prindham on the payroll is crucial and beneficial to the leafs. |

Nope.
But there are ways to manipulate the salary cap in ways we don't know...This has Pirdham all over it. |

Sounds to me it was just a way to get Sparks 750 thou of the books and get a draft pick, Clarksons salary is 1 mill this year and it's insured to 80% so doesn't reall mean much to the Leafs. |

Really, that high?
Crazy that the NHL can make teams spend that much. |

I saw Clarkson technically still has a NMC that he can submit a list of 14 teams to not be traded to. How comical would it have been if he'd have blocked a trade back to the Leafs |

Siegel is wrong anyway, they have to use part of the cap space they have for Clarkson, when they put him on LTIR they just gain the space back. - bobbyisno1
I think everyone saying this helps them make more cap room probably no more then you. (Cap friendly, weird other people who are obsessed with this type of thing on Twitter, people who are paid to follow the team and research how it works, Pridham, Dubas) |

#Leafs could also build a roster that has a projected cap hit of $89,913,333 (or $8,413,333 above the ceiling). They then place Horton, Dermott & Hyman on LTIR on Oct 1 to cover the difference. Finally they place Clarkson on LTIR on Oct 2, giving them $5.2M in additional space. |

No.
I am pretty certain you need to put Horton on LTIR before the season starts.
Which would mean they would not get the full compensation if Marner wasn't signed.
Now they have 10.5 in LTIR which means they can sign him beyond OCT 1st. |

It's a contingency plan so they can sign Marner later, if they need to.
They're covering bases just in case it goes down like Nylander.
They're thinking of the worst case scenarios and trying to protect themselves if negotiations don't go as planned. |

Even simpler version. The league cap limit is 83 mill. But for the Leafs its 93.55. The Leafs technically have 15 mill in cap space at the moment to sign marner if need be (5.3 horton + 5.3clarkson + the 5 they already have) Dubas is pretty much a sneaky genius if ya think about it.

I don't see how thats true, they only created the extra cap space by ditching Sparks.
Trading for a guy that goes on the books and then comes of the books doesn't give any extra relief. |

Right so it protects them from an offer sheet.
Who knows maybe there was a serious threat of one and Dubas just called Pirdham and asked how to eliminate it.
