So Shattenkirk is going to get bought out but I don’t think the Oilers will be an option....too bad tho I would rather roll the dice on him over Russell

Usually agree, but this is debatable. Monny provides more 1st half production. Nuge provides more complete game season long. I would call them even.

They'll likely buy out Brendan Smith. I remember when Red Wings fans were so excited about him. All the tools and no tool box. I still can't figure out why the Rangers signed him to that ridiculous contract.

I would take Nuge over Monahan any day.

Give Monahan the quality of wingers Nuge is given and let’s see what happens.

Also at least Nuge has a large amount of utility playing away from the puck. I don’t think Monahan can hold a candle to Nuge defensively and I don’t think their offensive value is a huge gap especially considering the typical quality of line mates.

I would love to see Monahan carry a second line with Lucic and Chiasson. Hell, I’d love to even see Monahan separated from Gaudreau at all.

I'm in the Monohan over Nuge camp due to how Monahan has proven himself to be consistent and durable. Not to mention it seemed like he made a big jump in terms of development this past year.

However, I looked into your last statement regarding his playtime with Gaudreau... and holy poop. Monahan's advanced metrics get (frank)ed up when playing without Gaudreau. His most common partner is Gaudreau too. That may be a telling sign of his own capabilities.

5v5 this past season:

Even strength this past season:

Now, I'm actually questioning my initial position.

Unfortunately I can’t get the links to work, thus I’m going on the assumption that the numbers you’re trying to share are only for this season only.

What do the numbers look like when RNH and Monahan each centred wingers of comparable worth, namely Hall and Gaudreau?

Wouldn’t have been too hard to make the space. Gagner and pick for a lesser pick would have done it.

Hard to say. I’m thinking he’ll probably top out at 45/50 points per 82.

Guess Gagner could always do the same, provided he gets some gravy PP time.
