I’d have forked over a 2nd and 3rd for Gusev.
- Wildschwein

New Jersey making a lot of good bets. Goes to show what cap space in a limited-growth environment can be turned into. They've now added Hughes, Subban, Simmonds (not much, but short term), Gusev and Hayden in one summer.

Hall- Hischier- Bratt
Gusev- Hughes- Palmieri
Wood- Zacha- Simmonds
Coleman- Zajac- Hayden/Anderson

Vatanen- Subban
Greene- Severson
Butcher- Carrick/Mueller

It has its flaws, but Shero has made a lot of progress in insulating his youth with scoring options.

Doubt it. Even if he does, Gagner is sure as poop gonna get outscored.

A massive improvement over last season. If Schneider can stay healthy, I don’t see why the Devils can’t complete for the Division.

I think a combo of Schneider and Blackwood COULD get it done, but there are still a number of reasons why I don't see them competing for the division title. While it has improved, their D is still lacking in "sure things" (Greene is older, Severson is streaky and struggles defensively, Butcher plays sheltered minutes) and their goalies are largely question marks.

And yet still be more impactful on overall team wins than all but two of our players.

Blackwood will play a lot of games. Probably head into the season as a 1A/1B split. It's the D I'm most concerned about. Having PK, Severson, Vatanen and Carrick as right hand shots is decent, but down the left we have Greene, Mueller and Butcher, have to pin a lot of hope on Smith making an immediate impact in the NHL at 19 years old.

Unfortunately I can’t get the links to work, thus I’m going on the assumption that the numbers you’re trying to share are only for this season only.

What do the numbers look like when RNH and Monahan each centred wingers of comparable worth, namely Hall and Gaudreau?

- Wildschwein

I'll look into it.

If he isn't signed long term by December 1st I want to see him moved. Devils have watched too much talent walk away for no return.

I think Bastian is the better option than Hayden or Anderson on the 4th line, also Zajac will certainly be the 3C. Wouldn't shock me to see a few bottom six forwards dealt and Zacha moved to the wing.

Wood, Zacha, Zajac, Simmonds, Coleman, Hayden, Anderson, Bastian, McLeod, Rooney, Boqvist, Zetterlund. They have quite a glut of 3rd/4th liners competing for 6 spots right now.

Wanna swap some D? You have a glut of RHD, we have an available LHD.

Russell, Gagner, Puljujarvi and a 2021 1st, for Wood and Severson?

Devils going to need that Severson contract. $4m a year for a top 4 defender is going to be key when Hischier, Blackwood, Bratt all get massive raises and Hall gets north of $10m a year.

Will he get it with the Devils though? To me, his words and actions seem to suggest that he’s gonna test Free Agency.

What’s your take on that?

If he isn't signed well before the trade deadline you have to move him if you're Shero. Can not afford to let him walk for nothing. I think you have to have at least the framework of what he is looking for hammered out before the season. Devils would never get equal value back, but you have to get something back for him.

Panarin set the market for superstar wingers, and TBH I'm hesitant to give Hall 8 years $11 million. He would be 36 when that deal expires.

Having said such, if Hall demands max term, would you rather he be moved regardless of possible playoff considerations?

No, I think you sign him if you can and worry about the decline in 3 or 4 years.

Fair enough. One would think that’d be the Devil’s window to make some noise anyway, what with Nico, Hughes and Severson still in their primes, and before the declines of Hall, Subban and Vatanen.

I lived in Edmonton during the tambellini years and I went to as many games as I could. I always thought Hall was a total blockhead on the ice. Giving the puck away, fumbling passes, dangerous rushes ending with him being at fault.
Was it just me or do you notice the same thing with the devils?
