I think the fact you are MJLing here and stuck on the number 5 says it all. I get it...you need to know where 5 comes from!!!
Let's see how many are scored without teammates doing all the heavy lifting...
P.S. This costs 7 million a year.... - Glak18
All this video did was remind me of how nasty he is in the slot & around the net 😂. You make it sound like gaining a net front presence against the other teams top defenders AND tipping in a ton of pucks, more than most of the league, isn’t a skill and that anyone can do it. If other players could do it, they would. You also don’t need to be on the top line to get pucks towards the net, which is where he scores like 85% of his goals
Also, in case anyone skimmed through: RW said he was going to try to use players who played on a regular basis and was going to steer clear from backup goalies. It sure seems like he’s taking cap hit into consideration as well. I think he should’ve instituted a cap floor for this scenario

Based on the fact Korpisalo will be the starter I think he is fare game. Also, Schneider played 26 games so could technically be considered not a starter. I know injuries played a major role in that, so I think either goalie is fare game.
Yeah he seemed to be getting high cap hit bad players. Having a cap floor would have made it better so you aren't just getting fringe NHLers who stink but cost 1-2 million.

Keeping things fair, I don’t think we can determine yet who will be the starter in Columbus. Korpi only started 21 games last year and has never started in 30. He also had an .897 last year in front of what many say is a top 5-10 D unit in the league. Should he succeed, Merz certainly won’t be the first goalie who makes a successful transition from Europe to the NHL. I actually think it’ll be Merz or a goalie acquired via PTO, trade, or waivers who will become the starter for C-bus. Keeping things what I would consider ‘fair’ I just would’ve excluded Columbus goalies in general
Not sure about the Flyers selection. I would probably take JvR over Braun. JvR is one of the worst defensive forwards in the league and has been for many years now, so the team will be basically shorthanded when he is out there. Then add in the fact he has zero work ethic or effort, so you add him to a line with terrible forwards and he instantly goes from a 25-30 goal puck pusher and deflector into a floating 5 goal turd.
Braun generates limited offense, but is still steady in his own end at his age, but JvR produces zero offense and is a huge defensive liability without talent doing the work for him. The ultimate definition of a pigeon. - Glak18
I didn't see a lot of glaring issues with him in a reduced role. He seemed to fit the bill quite well. The issue is his cap hit for that role. - burgh4life87
Yeah usually you can tell when guys are out of their depth and just on a hot streak but I felt Gudbranson was playing legitimately solid hockey here with no real red flags hinting at regression. Elevating his role at all would probably be a disaster, though, due to his offensive limitations so his contract is still a problem even if he continues to play well. From an on ice product perspective I’ve liked him, but from a team construction perspective he’s a tough cap pill to swallow.

It was a great day for hockey when he absolutely dropped Wilson when he was going for Guentzel. The glaring issues in Vancouver in part stem from his partners but he also wasn’t connecting on passes and he had some really poor turnovers which stuck out. In Pitt he now has a solid partner, he’s connecting on more passes, and his glaring turnovers are much fewer. I really don’t see why it can’t continue. I would much rather buyout JJ and try Hutton (with lower TOI!) or just have Kola or Ruh audition for the spot

Had a solid partner*. Petterson is gonna have to play with Schultz this year after trading Maatta. Not really looking forward to how Gud looks next to JJ/Riikola.

Let’s just hope JJ isn’t on the roster come the start of the season.
Not enough going to Anaheim IMO plus they already have Fowler, Lindholm, Guhle and MDZ on the left side
I would trade JJ+ to Detroit if possible. Take on Daley and send them a 3rd this next season and a 2nd the following year. Both picks turn into 1st rounders if JJ posts CF above 51% and scores 5 goals/20 assists in the 2020 regular season 😂
If the Ducks actually would want JJ, I'm not sold this is the case, why not just send him for a 7th rounder haha...or JJ plus pick for a pick. - MattStrat
I doubt they "want" JJ, but the 1st round pick is the enticement to take him. I also doubt they care about the 5th round pick they are giving up in this scenario.
