That is true; I think if we are buying out; Gorton will wait until 4:59 to submit to the league - MacT27
Yeah, if has anything cooking at all he’s going to wait until the last minute to pull the trigger on taking on dead money.

I can understand not buying out Brendan Smith, he can be sent down and a nice chunk of his hit comes off the cap, and if he is here he can at least play 4th line

Does Vegas have betting lines on this yet? I'm going with the underdog and saying Staal gets the buyout |

My personal feelings are I don't like buyouts, but if there are no trade partners I guess they have to do it. - mdw7413

I would rather do this than Shatty. I still say Shatty will have a comeback year |

Agreed. Staal is what he is at this point.
Shatty still gives me hope that someone at the deadline might take him with retained salary giving them the rental +1 yr |

You would really hate this? Would allow the russian kid and Georgie battle it out for the games. Whoever is playing better will play more. Playing better means more wins. Means we all be happy |

Only $1mil comes off the cap, same as if Beleskey was sent down. |

yep, it's why a guy with a NMC has much more of a chance of being bought out |

Sorry but it's a poopty move. The only part of it that makes sense is the money clearing portion. There would be literally no way to spin this in a positive light. It's not Hank's fault they gave out poopty contracts to players that didn't deserve it. Hank deserved his.
I just don't see it happening. Plus the buyout numbers kinda suck. |

Ya, I have a Hank jersey like everyone else, but there is a real chance he's the 3rd best goalie in our organization right now. Buying him out saves a ton of money. If you believe the reports, we gave him multiple attempts to approve a trade somewhere. Sports is a business, he is on the Rangers Mt Rushmore, but at some point you have to do what's best for the team. Even the Yankees convinced Jeter to hang em up. |

I mean it would never happen ever...but it would really show some balls on Gorton. And I would love the chaos around here |

That's the biggest thing. Hank has just been too up and down the last couple of years. Just don't think his play warrants the cap hit. That's what it comes down to me. The buyout would save us a ton of money and help us keep the other pieces.
But its probably dumb to talk about, the Rangers would never do it |

OMG PLEASE (Yes all in caps) enlighten me on how we will have 13-15 million in cap space next year?? Does this include the 6 million cap hit if Shatty is bought out today or that is without the buyout?? I cant wait to read this explanation. - Brukie
Ive probably done the math and posted it here half a dozen times.
Theres a website called capfriendly, they have something called armchair GM. Have fun. |

The Rangers would never do it because of the huge PR fallout. What teams routinely forget is, winning makes that blow over real quickly. It was easy for example for the Yankees to void Arod because he wasn't likable like Hank is. The same reasons though the Yankees used (in a cap free league mind you), are the same reasons that would be relevant to Hank.
What I would like to see as a fan is for the team to convince Hank to make this his last year. Make it seem like it was 100% Hank's decision. Maybe you only play Hank mostly at home. Have a cushy front office role lined up for him, for darn sure he can be a spokesperson. |

His dead cap hit is around 5mil next year. 3.6 this year and 2mil the last 2 years. Or he just rides out his contract for 2 more years. I am so tired of the dead cap space and having dead space due to buying out Lundqvist would just be ridiculous. If he were bought out (not happening) I would probably follow his new team as closely as the Rangers.
I am not sold on Georgiev, I have more faith in Shestyorkin which I know sounds about as asinine as the Hank buyout talk. |
