Dadonov played North American hockey at AHL and NHL levels from 2009 to 2012 then left for 5 years to get his poop together, and also the organization was aweful at that time. - aecliptic
I get what you are saying, most of the guys who are good enough, come over much earlier. I don't think you can discount the guys who play for a number of seasons and then come over even if they are in their early 20s. If Gusev is a bust, all the better for us. I just think he's a unique case. It's possible he's a basket case like Shipachov and the moment the coach wants him to work on something he quits.

He’ll probably fall somewhere in the middle. The mystique is probably inflating expectations, but he’ll still be a decent player. My guess is somewhere near 35 points.

Cap friendly thinks Gusev will play wing. I totally forgot about Zacha being on the team. I dunno, if he does play with Hughes (you have to think Hughes will be line 1), he's going to get a decent amount of points if only by accident.

But thats the point Im making is hes not in his early 20s, hes in his late 20s. Its very likely that hes set in his ways. Im not saying hes gonna be terrible, or unproductive, just not drinking the koolaid thinking he can replicate his success in Russia to NA hockey ‘just like that’.

I don't have to think that. From all reports, it is going to take time before Hughes becomes what is expected of him. I would be surprised if he elevates his game to the point where he is playing against the leagues best right away.

No way he steps in like a McDavid, Matthews, etc. I could see him putting up 45 pts. or so?

So who is the consensus player to be bought out? - rrentz
I think Smith has to be the favorite. Zero trade value, the dead cap issue isn't that much of a big deal. So Jim mentioned waivers. What happens is someone actually claimed the player? Do they just get them? Or can that player refuse to report and screw us out of a buyout?

I don't think he will ever be one of those guys. Hirschner has put up 52 pts and 47 pts, I don't think that is a huge barrier for Hughes taking the 1C spot. I feel like if he's not 1C by midseason, that's more of an indictment on Hughes if anything.

I would imagine the Rangers will put Shatty, Smith, Staal and Nam all on waivers today. Then make a final decision tomorrow - TPC
That would be a smart decision. Although, people on here would lose their crap, I'd put Strome on waivers too. A non zero chance he would actually get claimed and that's a free 3.1 million in cap space. If you wanted to buyout Shatty, that would help a ton for next season.
