Looks like they’re burring 1.3ish. - dadeadhead
That’s kind of surprising that they’d “bury” 1.3mil when they could’ve gotten relief for all of Callahan’s 5.8mil?
They must be ready to sign Point & need the “overage” room
But that’s definitely gonna mean they’ve gotta dump at least 1 decent salary before the season,
possibly 2 |

In English .... where you going with this? - Sabretooth9
Risto and a 3rd = Ehlers and Perrault
Gardiner in - Bogo or whoever 24 is out.
My guess |

Risto + Borgen
for
Roslovic + Perrault
Then
Add Gardner for 4yrs, 6mil per
*no thanks imo
Take out Borgen, sub Ehlers for Roslovic
And i think i even want a pick from them if we are taking on Perreault’s 4mil Cap hit |

Yours makes more sense.
I thought 28 and Ehlers wasn't right.

They wouldn't get full relief though. They may be able to maneuver enough to come close. The move gives them a little more flexibility. It doesn't seem terribly significant, but like you said, there's moves/signings coming. |

Pretty sure Ehlers is 27
I wasn’t sure if the “3” was Borgen or a 3rd
But either way, that should be taken out & we should get extra for taking 85’s Cap Hit off their hands |

They have 10 mil plus the 8.1 overage.
As you said they have plenty of space now.
Next year, not so much. |

Should the NHL stop these types of trades? I mean, the rich get richer and the cheap teams that want to get to the cap floor take on these deals to get there. This is a bad deal for Ottawa (minus the cap hit, to get to the cap floor). - Lilroot9
Why? Ottawa doesn't have to pay any money to Callahan, the insurance company does, and they subtract Condon's hit. It's a fantastic move for Ottawa, they get free money to get to the cap floor. And in fact, make money in the deal. |

Yeah. I don’t want to give up on Borgen that easily. But overall not a terrible trade. I don’t think we have enough cap space for Ehlers
But Gardiner for that contract is fine with me. If he truly is hurt. He can be put on IR. |

They do have a decent amount of kids that look “ready” based on their point totals
*obviously i don’t watch their minor league team, so idk all that much about their guys outside of stats & a few random posts I’ve seen
They’re really gonna have to be top heavy next year for sure
Palat, Gourde, Kilorn might all have to be shipped out
Possibly more if they can’t convince some of their RFAs to take smaller bridge deals |

I know some ppl don’t like Ehlers bc of the 0 goals in the playoffs
But for me,
he’s the type of guy you find the Cap room for
He’s only like .6mil more than Risto
Taking on Perrault’s 4.1mil is the issue
But if we can dump Sobatka’s 3.5m somewhere,
then we’re only talking 1.2mil total in added Cap
But then we gotta do something like move out either Sheary or Bogo to make room for Gardiner
All possible moves for sure
Just kinda complicated I’d guess |

Feel like we've gone through this a lot, and the details are all on cap friendly. The concept behind LTIR is that you get credit for the player replacing the injured player, not full credit for the injured player himself. To max your credit, really beyond the intention of the rule, you usually have to do some roster manipulation involving other players. I don't know how close they could have come.

If memory serves me they do not have to put him on LTIR and can use the cap hit.
Don’t quote me though. - dadeadhead
Yep, Sabres did that with McCormick. The cap hit counts whether he's on LTIR or not, the reason you wouldn't put him on LTIR is if you don't need the space(probably have to pay a lawyer to draw up paperwork), and neither the Sabres nor the Sens need the space, so it doesn't really matter. |

Sure... but they could’ve essentially gone over the Cap by 5.8mil if they needed to
That’s my point
Go over the Cap by up to 5.8mil
Or
Bury Condon & lose 1.3mil in Cap Space
Curious decision by Tampa unless they need that extra “overage” space NOW
And then still have some kind of salary dump or 2 yet to come |

Yeah, teams can definitely can find cap space when they need it. Tampa just did it. Hawks leafs etc all have done it.

DD said it earlier. This move bought them time. They can now go about $8 million over the cap if they need to after Point et. al. are signed. |

Then Philly, Rags, Leafs, and Canadiens overpay for everyone again.
It’ll be pre 04/05 all over again. |

You can still max it out, though, like the NBA is doing.
I think it works both ways. The stars will get paid, but the gap between them and the "good" or even "very good" players will be wider, as it should be. |
