I think we have a great young D core to be honest.
Need a good LD behind Dahlin though - sbroads24
McCabe is decent
Pilut could be good
We’ll see about Samuelsson & Johnson,
obviously they’ll need development for a bit
Bryson & Cronholm are probably long shots,
(at least to be “good”) but they could end up being decent depth
Botts has done a FANTASTIC job imo at building the depth on Defense & at Center that we’ll need to be a really good team |

I appreciate you keeping that name alive if for no other reason than he's the living embodiment of "let's name some guys"

I concur. Botts has definitely done a very good job of drafting and acquiring young, high-upside defensemen. It’s gonna pay off. |

Honestly that would be truly exciting because there are so many prospects out there That don’t get the spot light on them when that “prospect” might’ve been the best player in NHL history
I know teams aren’t going to do it ( and not allowed )but I believe if they could research the prospect more and be able to move that prospect or player to a different league just to see how they react in Different situations etc
But I honestly believe there are tons of hockey players that could be better than Crosby but they were never given a chance |

Just looking at nylander ,Kempe vs VO draft year it looks like favoritism if we never drafted VO he probably still be in Sweden and just be a dominant player there for the rest of his life |

I agree with a lot of your “scouting reports” of young guys
Start learning up on statistics & analytics
That’s the way the league is going
You are young enough & passionate enough about hockey that u could get involved for a living
Obviously you’ve got some contacts as well
Something to think about dude |

That was a big reason i was so critical of GMTM basically ignoring the position in the draft
If we have too many good young defensemen...
that will be an outstanding problem to have |

I still feel it was a mistake not taking Kaliyev yes he has motivational problems but you brought a coach that exceeds in that
This almost hurts just like us passing on Thomas

He was drafted 134th overall.
he had a boatload if injuries which always seemed to derail his season early on. |

He had two very impressive AHL seasons and lots of people thought he was going to be “the guy” but the injuries did ruin his career made him get a little “fat” but I really wouldn’t call him fat I would say he was not in hockey shape and he really didn’t give full effort into getting back |

My first thought on the draft were pretty much the same
Imo, our biggest need was goal scorers
We had a chance to draft what most considered the 2 best scorers in the draft,
but passed both times
I like the guys we picked...
But we still need guys that can put the puck in the net

Defensemen are interesting how they develop
Sometimes guys that seem offensively talented early on just end up bein good “stay at home” types
Craig Rivet has often said that was the case with him
That if he wanted to play meaningful minutes that he’d have to adapt & change his game to suit the role Montreal had available for him
Happens somewhat with forwards as well,
but i don’t think the same way
I think some forwards just can’t score at the NHL level
It’s very interesting to me how some guys develop into who they’re supposed to be
Some develop into a different type player
And some don’t develop at all really
Is it the coaching? Player? Team around them?
I think they all have a factor
Most ppl don’t seem to take timing and situation into account
But those might be the most important factors of all

They turned down Colorado’s pick 15-16 or whatever it was for him at the draft.
He won’t be that cheap - sbroads24
Perhaps, but that was before adding Panarin's $11.6m cap hit and Trouba's $8m. Colorado drafted Alex Newhook at 16. If a trade was on the table Newhook for Kreider, who says no? I would think the Avs. |

Odd because the detractors said that after his 1st season in Vancouver but showed up for camp 15 lbs lighter the following season. |

“24% of all 5v5 goals are scored after the defending team had possession of the puck but failed to exit the zone. That's why zone exits are so crucial, and why we should study how to make them work”
This is an interesting stat and sheds light on why puck movers and guys who make quick decisions are so vital - sbroads24
But that means 76% aren't scored that way, so maybe not SO crucial?
I wonder how many are scored on rebounds because the team couldn't clear the front, or are bad at marking their men. |
